Default Charger will not keep charging

I have a 91 Marathon that the charger will charge for about 10 minutes and then cuts off like it has a full charge. Unplug and plug back in to the cart and it will start charging again but will cut off in about 5 minutes. It cuts off quicker every time I do this. I took the cover off and when I plug it in the black relay with the yellow wire from the meter on the circuit board clicks. I used a friends charger and it charges fine and does not make the click when I plug it in. Has anyone else had this kind of problem?

Thanks in advance.

Most of the time when the charger malfunctions it is a circuit board failure. You can find a new one for a total charge from one of our site sponsors.

The black relay on the control board should click a few seconds after charger is plugged into cart whether it is plugged into AC power or not.
If the relay in your friend's charger does not click when plugged into cart alone, or the transformer hums when the charger is plugged into AC power only, his charger is defective.
(Most likely a bad control board and the relay has been by passed so charger can be used manually)

Attach a Digital Volt Meter between the red and black wire that attach to the control board. (Upper right in the second picture you posted.)
Monitor the voltage while on charge.

If the charger shuts off before the voltage climbs into the 44 to 46 volt range, the control board is defective.

If the on charge volts does reach 44V-46V before the charge terminates, there is excessive resistance in the charging loop.

Since automatic cut-off feature of your friend's charger may be disabled, the bad contact and/or wires can be in either the cart or the charger.
