Default Receiving electric shock from the door of cart

I have a 2007 EZGO 36 volt car with a full cover and we are getting an electric shock from the snaps that hold down the canvas covering the door. I can measure voltage between the snap and the positive terminal of one of the batteries. Is this abnormal or is there a ground in the system?

36v is pretty low voltage. Is it like a static shock?

Make sure you have nothing that grounds the frame or body of your cart to the batteries! The other thing you can do is try cleaning off the tops of the batteries. If they get really dirty, they can pass current through anything conductive that's touching them.

Under the right conditions you can get a shock from 12V. I have had it happen on boats in salt water when working on the electricals.
