Default Best way to cut dash?

First, I want to say thank you. I have visited this board a few times since I bought my cart back in July, an wish I had more time to read all the posts. I have learned a lot from this forum.

My question today is this... I just bought an LED battery meter, and was wondering what would be the best way to cut the hole in my carbon fiber dash. I don't want to crack or otherwise damage the dash, and need to know what tool to use.

Is this a round or square meter, with what type of mounting? It might help if you provide more detailed information about the particular meter you have.

If it's round, use a METAL cutting hole saw of the proper diameter. If it's a square cutout you need, I recommend putting a couple of layers of masking tape over the dash section you want to cut, and the surrounding area, and then mark the cutout, then drill a hole at 2 corners diagonally from each other, and use an airsaw (if you have a compressor and access to an air saw) with FINE metal cutting blades. If not, use a dremel tool with round cutoff disc to cut it, being careful to stay on your lines, and not to go PAST the end. You won't have to drill the two holes if you use a dremel and cutoff wheel. We do these methods a lot in the mobile electronics world, in ALL types of materials. Work slow, and be careful, and wear your eye protection! Carbon Fiber shards hurt like heck when they get in your eye.

I hope that helps.
