2002 ezgo series cart

I am still trying to decide if I want to purchase this golf cart. It is a 2002 ezgo TXT series cart. It has a rear seat, head lights, tail lights, windshield, extended roof and charger.

The batteries are 6 years old so probably need to be replaced soon.

My plan for the cart would be to eventually lift it and offroad tires.

It is a 36v cart.

I have talked the seller down to $1,900.

Is this a good cart and how easy and costly would it be to convert to 48v?

Give me your thoughts.

I am trading some firearms and cash for the cart so my initial out of pocket expenses would only be $500.

Here are my thoughts. That cart looks to be a shuttle 2+2 like mine. This means it came from the factory configured with the rear seat, long top, lights with brake lights (probably), pre wiring for turn signals (plug n play), a larger speed control (400amp), heavy duty springs and a slightly hotter motor. The rear seat should fold over backwards revealing an enclosed bag well.

6 years is near end of life for the batteries so the real cost of the cart is 1900 plus the cost of quality batteries in your market. This would be a good time to convert to 48v since you're going to need batteries anyway.

Series carts are simple, reliable and good candidates for lifting and offroad use because they don't generate as much heat in the motor/speed control during slow speed operations and in general they produce more torque.

To convert to 48 volt would require a beefed up forward/reverse switch,48v capable speed control with appropriate diode and resister, 48v capable solenoid, 4ga or 2ga high current wires and of course 48v worth of batteries and a 48v charger. Some of the cost could be recuperated by selling the 36v speed control and battery charger. Cost will be around 900-1100 plus the batteries. Lift and tires additional.

Thanks for the opinion. I went ahead and made a deal on the cart. Picking it up tomorrow. Will give the batteries some time. When they bite the dust I will start the mod's.
