liftin' my ride
hi guy's... i am thinkin' of lifting my 96 txt, and installing bigger tires and rims. my ? is, i hear that bigger tires will put more stress on the motor when pulling hills. just looking for the pro's and cons i guess.....thnx all in advance!

Re: liftin' my ride
Trust me...you will be able to live with any cons you may find. Adding larger tires increases the amp load on the motor, controller and batteries. A quick way to lessen the strain is to upgrade to 4 gage cables....then of coarse you can upgrade controllers and motors. You will see a small decrease in low end torque but will gain a small bit of speed. You can gain it all back by upgrading the cables and the rest of the electronics. There will also be a small decrease in runtime because if the increased amp draw on your batteries. One of the best thing you can do is to keep your connections clean and tight after lifting a cart.

Re: liftin' my ride
'IF' you have a PDS type controller I strongly suggest at least upgrading the cables....if not the controller too.

Re: liftin' my ride
Well....take this as my "Opinion". I don't think a DCS will hold up near as long as something like an Alltrax DCS replacement. IMO the extra amp load doesn't get along to well with SEPEX controllers....again, 4 gage cable will help but they are not a cure all. Now I'm not saying the controller is gonna explode in a big ball of fire from overheating all I'm saying is to be prepaired for "IF" the controller goes out.

Re: liftin' my ride
so roady, with that being said. how about new paint, a lift, and new rims, with same size tires. that way i have the new look with no added stress?

Re: liftin' my ride
Why bother lifting it if your not gonna put on bigger tires? If your mainly on flat ground or mild hills the stock controller with 4 gage cables might work for years to come without any trouble. If you plan on off-roading it any, pulling hills or trailers it wouldn't matter if you had a DCS, PDS or series type controller you should upgrade the controller anyways.
But no....just doing what you said won't add any stress at all. |

Re: liftin' my ride
i just lifted mine, and i have actually seen, for some reason, that my cart does better with the bigger tires and lift, i just went with 20" tires, stock rims, and a 4" lift kit. and i have a 1994.5 medalist so im pretty sure you will be fine as long as your not doing any mountian climbing
