Default No Reverse on PDS

A friend of mine has a TXT PDS that will not function correctly in reverse. When you select reverse it starts to move about 2 - 3 inches then it stops, and the power cuts off to the controller. This problem was noticed with the stock controller. Now it has an Alltrax DCX400PDS controller and it still does it. Sometimes the switch can be messed with and it will run for a few feet. He has been given suggestions such as the solenoid, or his batteries are bad. T

To me it seems logical that it would be the FNR switch; however I wanted to run it by everyone.

If it is a stock solenoid, it needs to be upgraded to at least a 200A unit, but it isn't causing the problem.

Same with the batteries, they might need to be replaced, but they would cause problems in both F and R.

The FNR switch is a the most likely suspect because it was happening with two different controllers. (Directional problems in a PDS tend to be a bad controller or FNR switch)

A quick and dirty test would be to jumper the center wire on switch to the orange wire. It should go into reverse and work normally, proving the switch was bad.

I would also disconnect the other wire from the switch during this test and make sure it stays out of harms way.

OR flip the top and bottom wire on the switch. If reverse now works and forward doesn't, bad switch.

check the two small F/R wires going from the controller to the motor and make sure there is nothing wrong with them,

Finally got around to troubleshooting it this morning... The switch was bad. The weird thing was that when I hooked the reverse buzzer up the switch worked well enough to activate it, but when I pressed the pedal the cart would start, the buzzer would stay on, and the controller would shut off momentarily. As soon as I switched the forward and reverse wires the problem happened in forward, and reverse worked great. Just thought I would post my results so others could benefit.
