07 EZ GO Problems & Questions from NEWBIE
I have an 07 ez-go pds golf cart while I was away out of town the wife and kids kept the cart on the charger for 2-3 week period straight without using the cart, almost everyone states that that’s fine and the charger will not overcharge the batteries just simply cycle on and off like trickle charging. When I got back home my daughter wanted to go for a ride un plugged the charger got in and nothing. Picked up the seat and the fuse was melted at battery terminal. I was told this was most likely due to one or more batteries going bad and causing the charger to run continuously and this could have possibly burnt up the controller. Brought it golf cart place and they said one battery was bad but all the others load tested good, replaced bad battery and still nothing so they said they tested the controller and it was fine and know they feel it is the motor. This just doesn’t sound right to me but I am no expert was hoping to get our opinion on this as well could the motor be bad due to this one wire melting at battery terminal just while sitting in the garage on the charger? Cart ran fine prior to this event
Thanks for any thoughts on this |

Re: 07 EZ GO Problems & Questions from NEWBIE
OK so here is whats new hopefully I can get some feedback on this.
I went and picked up my cart telling them I didn't want to fix it, they looked at me kinda funny then proceeded to try to convince me to change the motor. I said no thanks can someone just help me push It in on the trailer, then they said Oh its running but just don't run it at full throttle or it will burn the fuse. SO my question now is would a so called bad motor cause the fuse to burn under full load? Someone please help with some thoughts on this. Thanks in Advance |

What controller, solenoid and cables are on this, stock? Can you post some pics of the problem, what's the battery pack voltage, what's the voltage drop to when you try to go?
Connect a meter to the pack and try to go to get those readings. What fuse? The stock cart has no fuse in the drive system. |

Re: 07 EZ GO Problems & Questions from NEWBIE
Your cart looks to have 240 amp hour T125 batteries, thats great. But one odd ball? is it equivalent?
Stock PDS drive system with freedom chip, that's okay for stock tires. The 'Fuse' on the main + is for the charger connection ONLY. Not the main solenoid connection. Looks to be the problem. It is not rated for the motor draw. Simply connect the big cable coming from the solenoid directly to the battery post. and connect the white charger lead to the fuse. Recharge and use |

SCOTTYB thanks a lot for your guidance on this. Still cant believe the shop trying to convince me the motor was bad and wanting to charge me $1,200-1,500 to fix it. Bad enough they replaced a bad battery which isn't the same as the ones in the cart and it doesn't even look like a new one, will be paying them a return visit on that one though. I felt something wasn't right when they told me what was wrong so my instincts saved me but people like you on this great forum are priceless.
REALLY CANT THANK YOU ENOUGH |

Now you know where NOT to shop. Like Scottyb suggested, the replacement battery should be equivalent to those in the pack. That is, the same ampere hour rating. Any decent shop would know this. They would also know replacing it with a lesser battery would eventually be akin to another bad battery as it would draw down faster than the rest of the pack.
