Another electrical question - JohnnieB
Hi all -
Today's wiring question(hoping JohnnieB sees this) is regarding how to easily wire in the factory stuff with my new voltage reducer and inbound fuse block (featuring a negative bus). So here's how the existing stuff is powered (and the "stuff" is only lights) That green wire that goes to this stock fuse panel comes off the positive post of battery 5. It will basically be replaced by the 12v positive from the voltage reducer. My issue is that There is no visible ground wire. My assumption is that somewhere in the wiring harness/loom all the negatives tie together and come back to the main pack negative in the one lead that connects to that post from the harness. So my question....can I power the existing accessories by just attaching the posititives (seen in the pic on the existing fuse block) to my soon to be new fuse center....relying on the mystery negative that is currently working? I hope that makes sense.....it was a long day. |

Re: Another electrical question - JohnnieB
well i'd answer you by saying that the ground has to be some where within 1 battery of the green power wire (2-6v = 12v)
but if you can find the negative wire you can wire positive to fuse block and ground to ground on any accessory but we will see what jonnieb says |

Re: Another electrical question - JohnnieB
Right - the negative has to be on #6 (the main neg)....but there's no obvious connection to it from the harness (it's all wrapped a sheath) there is a single neg coming out of the harness to that post, my guess is that it is the single lead that all lights and the stock battery gauge connect to. I just cannot see where they join.

Re: Another electrical question - JohnnieB
When you get the voltage reducer, connect the +12V output to the green wire (Remove the other end of the green wire from the battery pack)
Connect the -12V output to the wire that is attached to the main negative terminal on the battery pack. (If you have a stock SoC meter, that wire will have to remain connected to the battery pack, or you run a separate B- wire to the SoC meter and completely separate the 12V system from the 36V system) Here is an accessory wiring diagram. |

Thought I'd follow up my questions with the payoff. Thanks to everyone, especially Johnnie B, for all of the help and guidance.
here's the voltage reducer and fuse block in place with some of the connections being made up I added this switch to cut power to the reducer when not in use added my new headlights and gave it a go! thanks again for all the help! |
