Default Hooking up voltage reducer to rxv...please help

Hello to all
I have a 2009 ezgo rxv that I am attempting to install a madjax 30 amp voltage reducer and I am looking for some technical assistance. The wiring diagram shows 5 wires
1) 12v switched output.
2). 12v constant output.
3). 36/48v input from battery
4). 36/48v from key switch
5) 36/48v from battery.

My question lies in the #4 (the key switch wire). I assume this is a signal wire to turn the reducer on. If this is accurate how do I hook this into the key switch. The key switch on the rxv are also the f/n/r selector with a plug into the switch.

Any help is appreciated

Don't wire it to be on all the time, it will run your pack down constantly. Just attach wire to the key switch, just use your DVM to see which lug is on in the on position and off in the off position.

Jake that was my original plan but the problem I'm concerned with is that the switch has a plug that goes in the back as opposed to exposed wires so I'm figuring it might turn into a headache. I suppose I could try that and attempt to use an inline splice I'm just know that the controllers are very sensitive so that's my concern

Poppa, I just installed a reducer myself.....and when running it to the key switch there is a problem, at least for me....well it all works fine, untill you go from F to N to R, for when the radio is on, there is a momentary loss of power going through the switches, thus everytime I go from F to R, I lost my radio. WHAT A PAIN. so what I did insted, so my reducer would NOT be on all the time, is to wire the signal wire straight to the + of the battery, and put a toggle switch/light to power the reducer. all that I have being powered is the lights, which I only need at night, and the radio. So when I get in the cart, all I have to do is flip one extra switch for lights or the radio....and I have the light on the dash so I won't forget to turn off the reducer for some reason.

Nuke that is what I have been thinking....I just took off the dash and front cowl and discovered that there is a factory pigtail for a state of charge meter. I'm taking a break for a few but my plan is to check that pigtail to see if it is on/off with the key switch. Did you try that at all??

I would strongly recommend not tapping into the RXV switches. I just read on here were someone burned up there controller trying to do the same thing. I installed mine with a separate switch as you mentioned you were thinking about doing and ran it at 48 volts. No problems with mine thus far, the last thing you want to do is buy a new $800 controller.

This is the recommended answer
This is an AC drive system the last thing you want is any kind of intermixing of AC and DC. It is safest to do a separate switch.

well for starters, I have a TXT, and originally had no lights, so the On/Off (ignition) switch only has two lugs on the back, so its really just a fancy toggle switch that has a key to it.....and I do have my SOC meter installed that way so its not on all the.....but it too will go off and back on when going from F to R......
