Red Hot Battery terminal & now dead cart
-i have a 1999 electric ezgo cart that is lifted. a month ago while driving up a hill, the positive battery terminal that goes to the silinoid arc'd and got red hot. after cooling down i checked all of the cables, which were tight. the cart worked fine after that and would charge. i keep this cart at my vacation home. i left the cart unplugged, just in case. i just went back and the cart is completley dead and the charger will not turn on. i tested the batteries with a meter and an automotive charger, which said they were fine. i again checked and cleaned all of the cables throughout, all it tight. Also checked the silinoid, which arc'd, but cart would not move, is it possibly the controller, which i am hoping not, as i have looked at the cost. what else could be wrong.

Re: Red Hot Battery terminal & now dead cart
It's unlikely that your "red hot connection" healed after cooldown. You need to carefully take it apart and repair the problem. The cable probably will need to be replaced.
Also, did the arcing take place at the solenoid or the battery? Whichever it was, the connection has a problem. Take it apart, even if it seems "tight". |

i took all the cables off, however did not replace any of the cables, nothing seemed burnt on the connections. with that said, would that prevent the charger from kicking on??

the charger wont turn on if the pack voltage is to low (either by faulty connection or dead pack). you will probably have to charge each batt or pairs of 6 volts with a 12v charger to bring them up enough for the charger to want to give a crap enough to start charging them.

Re: Red Hot Battery terminal & now dead cart
i tried charging all the batteries together, with a 12 volt charger, yet the charger says that they are charged.

Re: Red Hot Battery terminal & now dead cart
are you saying you tried to charge the entire pack at the same time with a 12v charger? that won't work.....if you have 6v batteries, then what you need to do is disconnect the cables between batteries 2-3 and 4-5. This will leave you with 3 sets of two, each pair will be 12v. connect up each pair to your 12v charger and charge them.

Re: Red Hot Battery terminal & now dead cart
What is the actual battery pack voltage?
A fully charged 36V battery pack will read 38.2V. |
