Default drive train excessive play

I have a E-Z-Go 2001 electric TXT which I'm rebuilding. One worry is that when one rear wheel is jacked up off the ground, there is at least 4 inches of
free play when turning the wheel before you can feel the drive train engaging.
How much play is normal and what is the cause of the play?

there shouldn't be that much....the hubs are worn and most likely need to be replaced, before one or both get stripped. btw, they need to be replaced in pairs.

Thanks for the speedy reply. Exactly what parts are the hubs? Is this the end of the half shaft that connects to the diff or the end that connects to the wheel? Or is it the plate that the wheel bolts onto?

Welcome to BGW

One more test before you buy anything, have someone hold one tire so it can not turn, and see if you still have alot of play on the other one,? and check the nut on the end of the axle and see if they are tight or loose?

the HUBs are what your wheels bolt to. they are splined, and the end of your axle shafts are as well, then there is a large nut that holds them on.
