PDs help
I have a PDs cart my golf cart mechanic says that the stock controller is burnt up I want to know a) 400 or 500 amp controller b) what is a reasonable cost for both to be installed I have a 6" lift and soon to be 23" tires with a rear seat I ride groomed trails with very few hills I do tow a small trailer that I haul yard trash on ( small limbs and leaves) I have also been considering upgrading to a plum quick motor ( probably executioner)

Re: PDs help
With a rear seat and 23" tires and pulling a trailer, I'd go with the Alltrax DCX500PDS, a Super Duty (400A/1000A) solenoid.
One of the BGW site sponsors sell them as a kit (#909 towards the bottom of page) http://www.cartsunlimited.net/Custom_Options.html You would also need to upgrade the high current cables to 2Ga handle the amps. |

Re: PDs help
Motor heat might be an issue with stock motor and a 500A controller.
You'll be fine if you keep your foot out of it, but if you drive it hard, you have the potential of smoking the motor. Fortunately, the DCX controllers are user programmable, so you can back it off to around 400A while running the stock motor and then crank back up to 500A when you replace the stock motor. I attached a thermocouple to my motor to monitor its temperature. (I stay below 200°F) |

Re: PDs help
I took me about 3 hours to install a DCX400PDS, but I'm an old guy and took several breaks.
My actual install time was about half of that. |

Re: PDs help
Quote:
A stock PDS controller limits the motor RPM to about 4,400 in Freedom Mode, which is about 19MPH on stock height (18") tires. The DCX does not limit motor RPM, so it will spin ay about 5,600RPM @ 36V, or about 24MPH on stock height tires. Theoretically, with 23" tires, you should get 30.8MPH, but even with a new set of batteries, you probably won't reach that speed. |
