Default How can I make my golf cart go faster?

I bought an EZ Go golf cart at the end of 2011 and when I bought it, the salesman asked me if I wanted to the cart to go 15-18mph or 18-21 mph. He said that the speed was regulated by a computer chip and if I wanted it to go the faster speed that I needed a different chip. My cart goes between 18-20 but I see people flying by me in the neighborhood all the time. I was just curious as to how I could make my golf cart go faster. I have attached a couple of pictures in case you need to know what model it is. I appreciate your input.

First off, if your cart 36v or a 48v. IF its 36v.....a very easy way to gain about 30% on both Speed and Torque is to convert to 48v.

oh and btw.....CONGRATS on the ride, and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to BGW. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, wive's, husbands, girlfirends and boyfriends here don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

Alltrax controllers do not regulate rpm like the stock Curtis does. Pkg 808 on our website is 400a amps with HD solenoid. Combined with good 4g cables you will go 24 - 26 mph (on those bigger tires) on 36v, faster yet on 48v Check it out.

First, replace the stock PDS controller with an aftermarket controller that doesn't limit motor RPM.

Second, if that isn't enough speed, increase the battery pack voltage.

Third, if still more speed is desired, look into a high speed motor and/or high speed differential gears. (You've already got taller than stock tires.)

Getting a PDS cart into the mid-20's is fairly ea$y, getting it into the 30's gets expensive.

Also, don't forget to upgrade the brakes.

So if I add 1 more 6v battery to my cart for a total of 42v what will i gain?
Will my 36v charger still work?

You can't just randomly add batteries unless you like to smell electronics burning. Since you still have a stock controller and solenoid it must be replaced with a controller with the voltage range you are wanting to run. Same thing with the solenoid also.

You charger will no longer work so you will need a charger for the voltage you desire also (42v or 48v, etc...).

1. Up to about 17% more torque and speed. Plus a cooler system. (Temperature, not style. )

2. No. The charger has to match the pack voltage.

--------
The solenoid and controller also have to match the pack voltage, however the solenoid and controller I have operate at 36V, 42V and 48V.

I had to buy a 42V charger, but the 42V DPI charger uses the same transformer as their 48V charger and if I ever decide to go to 48V, all I have to do is replace the control board.

Johnnie,

Not to hijack this thread, but what solenoid do you use that is 36, 42, and 48V compatible?
