Hot, Hot, Hot
I took my new 2001 EZGO TXT 2+2 non PDS for a test run after charging up the batteries for the first time (four new, two nearly new). Cart seemed to be running great until... After riding for about fifteen minutes, I noticed heat and a burning smell coming from inside the cart where the forward/reverse actuator goes (don't know the specific name for this part). I quit riding immediately to prevent harm. What could this be and any solution? This can't be normal. The photo is not my cart but exactly the same model. The heat is coming from the black box in the bottom right corner

Re: Hot, Hot, Hot
The black box in the bottom right corner covers the Forward/Reverse selector.
You probably have loose connections that have overheated or the switch contacts are burned up. Thr cable end/conections can be repaired and the contacts & buss bars can too of they are not too burned up. Hope this helps. |

Re: Hot, Hot, Hot
Another item to keep in the back of your mind is that the cart is not intended to be run under full pedal for an extended period of time. I am not saying that you can't keep pace at max speed but you should be letting off the pedal intermittenly allowing the the volts to come and go. I have seen carts that parents turn their kids loose in and the kid keeps the pedal on the floor the entire time (especially on hilly terain) and it comes back and something is burned up. The parent then wonders what caused the failure. This is also compounded with the fact that the car was not maintained and a bad connection was also thrown into the equation.
Resistance causes heat and heat causes premature failure of the system components. |

Re: Hot, Hot, Hot
My teenage daughter was driving it around the neighborhood. It is flat and paved, but I'm sure the pedal was floored. I will check the connections and discuss the driving full throttle thing with her and my wife so they know. This makes sense to me seeing that they were designed to be driven from hole to hole.

Re: Hot, Hot, Hot (problem found)
Found the souce of the heat and took some photos. You guys with the knowledge please take a look and analyze this for me. I don't know what the name of the parts are but I will research it. I obviously have some replacement parts to buy.
Thank you |
