RXV Radio Reception problem

I have put a standard 12v automotive radio in my 09 RXV and I am having all kinds of Radio Interference and poor reception. I have tried 2 radios and 2 antennas. It worked fine in my EZGO 36v Dc system but I think the AC and body itself may be the problem.. The radio antenna does not seem to ground well enough.

Anyone a Radio Tech who may have any ideas????

I have heard that interference from the motor(?) may cause this...
I have never had a radio on a cart, but I have heard this problem here on the forum before.

Thanks.. The antenna just doesn't have enough to pull in a station. if you touch it or the radio it comes it pretty good, and when you step on the accelerator you get a whine. A std car loop may eliminate that but not help the reception.

I guess when you touch it, it basically makes you an antenna as well...
Have you tried touching the antenna and driving?

Everything.. tried grounding the radio and antenna to frame. even grounding the Neg battery to the frame and adding a ground strap from the axle to the ground. I may get a piece of copper pipe and set in the trough on the roof. The frame system on the RXV has a lot of plastic for exam. the battery tubs

Get a marine (boat) antenna or one designed for fiberglass bodied cars.

If you are trying to use a vertical monopole type antenna, the part the sticks up into the air is only half the antenna. The other half is the metal body it is mounted on.

The whine (RFI) exists with both AC and DC carts. Some controllers are worse than others, but they all chop the battery pack voltage at about 18kHz and put out a lot of electrical interference in the process.

AM radio is the most susceptible, FM is a little better and playing CD's or MP3's is the least effected by it.

The whine is probably getting in through the power supply system. You can buy an LC filter from any car stereo place that should help that. It goes in series with the power supply to the radio. The reception problem is harder to solve. There is often not enough metal to make a good ground for the antenna system.

In addition to what JohnnieB said I would strongly not recommend trying to ground to the frame. Sounds like a recipe for disaster with the electronics involved on the RXV. Try the marine antenna your noise is coming from signal interference. So glad I bypassed this issue with my install.
