Default Make An HD F&R Switch?

The F&R switch on my 1991 EZ-GO Marathon Electric needs replacing soon. I have a brand new stock cam that is in perfect condition. The copper lugs are starting to sink into the board from the last 10+ years of use. I will order up a new board with new copper lugs.

My question is, Can I take 2 Bus Bars and put them on top of each other and bolt them onto my new cam to make a heavy duty F&R Switch?

Is that a good idea?

Thanks,

Matt

Well the thing is, I already have a stock cam on hand. Instead of buying another I would like to just upgrade the new one I already have.

Thanks,

Matt

Scotty B, I'm sorry, I really wish I could do that but I forgot to mention that the new cam is currently being used on the cart. Its a brand new Cam but on an old contact board. The cart is getting used every single day on a farm by workers. I was hoping I could make this a 20 Minute process by just putting 2 bus bars together, put it back together and back to work it goes. Don't take this the wrong way, I would buy anything from you if I needed to, I hear you make some quality parts, even better then EZGO!.

Do you sell HD bus bars?

Thanks,

Matt

I bought a strip of copper twice as thick as the stock bars and cut it up to make HD bars for the f&r button. Works awesome. Doubling up the bars would work the same.

Thank you Sportcoupe, I didn't know you could just slap 2 bars on there to make an HD switch.

Saves Me Money!

Thanks,

Matt

Actually two thinner copper bars should pass more current then one thicker bar because of the increase in surface area. Current travels along the surface of a conductor, not the center.

I tried the two buss bar together and for whatever reason it did not work much better in my situation. I am running 650 amps though. So then I got some 3/16 by one inch wide copper bar and cut and ground it to fit. Works like a charm!

I like doing things myself so that is part of the fun for me. Had neither of those things worked out I would have ordered one from Scottyb.

OK, I did it with mine and it worked like magic. On a 93 Degree day the motor and F&R Switch were just slightly warm after a 1/2 Hour drive. This works fantastic. I think I am done fixing this cart for awhile, everything is done. This is a great Forum. I would not have been able to do anything with this cart if it wasn't for you guys. Now its just Ride Ride Ride. Hopefully I'm good with problems for a few months if we are gentle with it.

Thanks,

Matt
