36 volt to 48 volt conversion
Hello I am currently deployed to Afghanistan with the U.S. Army till the end of the month and when I return home to Florida I will be working on my cart. I have a 2001 EZGO. The cart is a 36v Non-DCS with a 1206 footprint controller. It does not have a run/tow switch and the steering collom is a 3 bolt pattern. I sent my motor out to be upgraded by Electrical Motor Products, Inc. with their switchable speed tourqe/motor upgrade with armature banding for 48 volt. I am riding on Swampfox mud tires 22x11x10 inch aluminum rims with 2 inch spacers all around. It is lifted 5 inches with a rear seat and HD springs. Everything else is stock. I will also be adding an Alltrax SPM-48500 Motor Controller and 48 volt on board charger into the mix.
What all do I need to do a 48 volt conversion? Thank you in advance. |

Re: 36 volt to 48 volt conversion
Your going to need some 4ga battery cables, a 48v solenoid, and a HD f/r switch

Re: 36 volt to 48 volt conversion
chicopopo, as the others have already said, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.
now on to the cart stuff.....you will love that controller, its the one I have. Here are the additional things I would suggest/need to have a cart that will stand the test of time. SD solenoid HD F/R switch 2 ga. Cable Set (4 ga. will work, but bigger is better!! LOL ) and of course a set of either 6-8v batteries or 8-6v batteries. |

Re: 36 volt to 48 volt conversion
Wow thanks for the fast response. I cant wait to start working on my cart when I get back. One reason to upgrade to 48 volt was due to my charger frying while my neighbor was charging the cart outside and it rained smoking up my charger. since I was upgrading my motor and needed a new charger whats a few more parts to make it better. Any good chargers I should look at since Im switching to on board?

Re: 36 volt to 48 volt conversion
I suggest you stay away from the on-board micro processor type chargers, The only good one made is a bout $450 by Lester. The rest of them just don't have a good service record.
A Good stand alone charger with an old fashion transformer for amperage production and PC board for smart charging in 5 stages is just $285 with a plug to fit your cart. |
