Default Question of forward/reverse switch

I recently bought a 2001 EZGO 36 volt TXT Series cart. When I bought it the batteries were old and completely dead. So I bought new batteries and fully charged them. I drove the cart for 20-30 minutes and parked it. When I went to pull it in the garage it wouldn't move the solenoid just clicked. I went out a hour or so later the cart took right off.

The next morning my daughter took the cart around the block and on the way back it stopped right in front of the house. Once again the solenoid just clicked. Well from what another member told me he said to check to make sure the batteries are fully charged. I did and they are. Then he said to check the for/rev switch.

Well this is where the story gets a little more complicated. I suck at electrical. I have a friend that does HI LO - Electric jack repair I asked him to come over. He stated he never worked on a electric cart but he would give it a try. He came by today and tested a few things he said he's not sure he will try to find someone he knows more about carts to take a look at it.

I just went out to the garage to take a look one more time at the cart and see if I could see anything that was wrong and I noticed a piece of metal laying under the for/rev switch. I see where it broke off at. See the picture below. Well finally here comes my question will this piece being broke cause the cart to act like it is. I don't know if my friend accidentally broke the piece when he was testing the switch or not. Either way I'm not mad at him about it I know he was just trying to help me. But I'm really shocked I didn't see the broke piece laying there before he came by. I'm hoping I put a new switch on and the cart works.

Edit: I just took a picture from the internet and circled the part that broke off. The entire roller is broke off.

personally I don't see anything wrong in the picture......but then again that's not a picture of your F/R.....you circled the switch roller.....is that the piece that is broken? the entire roller is missing or broken off the switch?

Yes I should've been more specific. I just took a picture from the internet and circled the part that broke off. The entire roller is broke off.

There doesn't appear to be anything missing within the area circled in red.

If the solenoid is clicking when the cart is misbehaving, try tightening the nut on the end of the central shaft that is facing away from the camera.

YEP.....if the roller is missing, you just need to replace that one micro switch......no need to replace the entire F/R switch.

That microswitch is MS-4 and when the roller drops onto the indentation on the cam circumference, it sounds the beeper. In some cart it also reduces controller to half speed.

Neither microswitch on the F/R assembly will cause the symptoms you have.
Those being that the solenoid clicks, but cart doesn't move.
The problem is most likely the high current contacts in the F/R assemble are not making contact, or not making good contact.

Could be that the cam isn't being rotated all the way to the mechanical stop, or that cam tensioning nut isn't tight enough.

Tightening the nut will make it harder to shift, so apply some dielectric grease to the contacts.

Check the contacts, if they are badly burnt, you may need to replace the F/R assembly.
