Upgrading from 36v to 48v with 36v components
I have a 36v PDS with Alltrax 400A controller. I've read that you can bypass the 36v bits (solenoid, battery gauge, etc) and just run the extra 12v to the motor. My questions are:
Is the cart jerky or hard to modulate this way? Can I wire in a 48v charger? I don't want to use two chargers. Do I need to change resistor? Can I simply just add batteries and proper wiring? Thanks |

the best thing you can do is to have this thread moved into the proper section so it gets the right exposure. send a Mod a PM and have them move it into the Electric EZGO section.

Re: Upgrading from 36v to 48v with 36v components
you are overthinking this, your controller is already compatible with 48v. you need 3 (maybe 4- new energy meter) new things.
1- 48v charger 2- 2 more matching 6v batterys, simply add them into the string configured like the others. 3- 48v relay, i have ran 48v on a 36v relay but heat bulidup in the coil could be a problem 4- new 48v energy meter, But you could just leave the current meter hooked only to the current batteries, leaving the two additional batterys off the meter. |

You wouldn't change the resistor across the solenoid?

Re: Upgrading from 36v to 48v with 36v components
Looks to me you just need a 48v solenoid to upgrade your system. Yes you could bypass the solenoid control but it takes some tech savoy, much easier to just get the correct solenoid and charger and off you go at 48v. Depending upon who's meter you have, it may or may not handle the voltage. We need more info on that.

Left a message for you earlier in the week to figure out what to buy from you. So no resistor, eh? |

If you get solenoid from me they automatically come with proper diode and resistor. Messages don't always work. Try again if you need something. |

Ok gotcha...the diode I believe is amperage specific, not voltage.
Going with Crown CR225's and trying out the Sam's Club charger. |

Re: Upgrading from 36v to 48v with 36v components
Got everything up and running yesterday! Running with 36v solenoid wired on the six pack. I changed the resistor to the 470 ohm. The Stanley charger is charging the pack of 8 tonight.
The car feels 200 lbs lighter! |
