97 TXT clean up and upgrade

Well,
Figure ill try my hand at this, have been snooping around the site for a couple of months, finally found what I hope is the right deal and now I'm ready to get started. Got it mostly pulled apart this evening, my plan is to clean and paint the frame this weekend, install lift and tires next weekend and then work on the body. That's the plan at least. I live on the beach, so no hills or off-road, but we have some nice carts in the neighborhood....so I want to keep up with the Jones' Please post any tips , I'm very new at this and would much rather listen than make a costly mistake.

Congrats on the purchase. The picture you posted is not a 1997 cart, it might be a 1995 cart. If you want more speed there are only a few ways to to it on a series cart, which is what you have.

1) Gear change, stock is 12:1, you can go 8:1 or even 6:1 since you have no hills. You will loose great amount of torque.

2) Larger tires, essentially the same as a gear change, just not as intense. You will need a lift kit and you still may not be happy with speed. You will loose a moderate amount of torque.

3) More voltage, you currently have 36v cart, upgrading to 48v will yield ~30% more speed and torque. Most expensive as you need more batteries, controller, solenoid and charger.

Bull, sportcoupe is right. but you do have options. I too have a Series TXT, mine is just a little newer, thats all. I did a similar build on mine.

before you get started buyung stuff, figure out where you want to be when its done. You said you live at the beach.....but said you don't go off-road, does that mean you don't go on the beach? in the sand? that will determain what kind of wheels/tires would work best, and whether you need/want to lift it or not. Your cart, as it sits, will only run 11 or 12 mph....how fast do you want/need it to go? as sportcoupe mentioned, depending on your mechanical ability you can change out the gears in the rear end, OR you could just get a new high speed/torque motor. We have a few vendors that can hook you up with a speed/torque motor, such as PlumQuick, which can put togeather a motor that meets whatever needs you have. I am going to guess you will end up needing to upgrading pretty much all of your drive system (controler, f/r switch, solenoid, cables).

Just take your time and decide where you need to be at the ned.

No I didn't. I left out:

4) Upgrade motor (as pointed out by Sir Nuke) to a speed motor. Motor choice will be defined by what controller you are or will be running when done.

Sorry sport assumed keep the 36 motor with 48 v batteries.

Thanks for the posts , i am curious as to being able to tell the diffrence between a 97 and a 95. 97 is what i cam up with when i looked up the number on the plate. is it possible the part could have been swapped from another vehicle.....

first thing i plan on doing is HD springs on the front and rear, and a lift and tires while its tore down. Did slip up and find a awesome sunburst body kit from my local dealer, had a scratch on the bagwell and it was returns. Scored it for 250. So i am stoked that I at least have that covered now.

No, we are not allowed to have motorized vehicles on our beaches here, so basically going from the house to the beach, riding the neighborhood ,and local rest./bars will be all It is used for
