Default Half Peddle

Does running a cart at half throttle for extended times, do any damage to the system and or batteries.

Depends on what cart your talking about, some yes and some no, marathon resistor carts yes, controllers carts, depebds on the drive system, PDS cart with stock controller, and larger tires than stock yes, a series drive system cart no, it always helps to start out a thread with the year and drive system of the cart you need info on

Does it pull more amps at half throttle vs full throttle, therefore reducing runtime as well as battery life?

Theoretically, it takes the same amount of electrical energy to move a cart from Point-A to Point-B at half throttle as it does at full throttle. However, more energy is wasted accelerating to full speed than what is wasted accelerating to half speed and other factors such as wind resistance and rolling resistance of the tires come into play, so half throttle is more efficient.

On level ground the runtime at full throttle will be less than what it is at half throttle, but the distance traveled (range) will be roughly the same.

As for battery lifespan, it will remain the same unless you discharge the batteries further or don't charge them as often.

Thanks JB, so that brings up another question. If coverted to 48v from 36v, would I draw less amps at the same speed therefore increasing runtime?

Yes, going from 36V to 48V decrease amp flow for the same workload.
However, runtime is determined by the AH of the battery pack and it depends on what you put together for the 48V pack.

The standard 36V pack is made up of six 225AH 6V batteries and a 48V pack built with six 170AH 8V batteries will give you roughly the same runtime. On the other hand, a 48V pack built from eight 225AH 6V batteries will give you roughly 33% more runtime.

Here is a list of 48V pack made up from various 6V and 8V batteries.
