Saving neglected batteries
So while I was out of country this summer my wife found a 2003 TXT for me that is sweet. I got home a couple of days ago and the first thing I see is EXTREMELY low water in the batteries (6 6 volts) with an equal mix of Golf Pro and Interstate cart batteries all dated in 2011 and 2012. I refilled all the batteries and put the entire pack on charge. Once charged I took it for a quick spin and only got around 1.5 miles out of it. Charged again and closer to 2 miles second trip. 3rd full charge and now I'm taking voltage readings (no SOC meter installed). After the 12 hour rest, here are my readings
Pack was 37.46 and individual readings are 6.07, 6.48, 6.10, 6.36, 6.30, and 6.14. I'm now charging individually to try and bring the lower ones up starting with the one at 6.07. Once I get them close, I'll charge the entire pack together and go for short runs and recharge, repeating the cycle over and over to try and rebuild the pack. Are these batteries gone, or do you think I can save them? Other than the batteries, my wife picked a sweet cart for already lifted with nice rims/tires and rear seat. She did good, but just didn't know about batteries to look at them. |

Re: Saving neglected batteries
Also, I'm not 100% sure on year/model either. It was advertised for sale as a 2008, but my wife said when she bought it it was a 2003. The plate in the glove box is missing, so I don't have a serial number for it. Here are some pics that maybe y'all can help me identify it.

And I'll just keep firing questions here instead of starting new threads.
How do I disable the backup alarm? I don't know the yr or model, so don't know what wiring diagram to follow. |

Re: Saving neglected batteries
Not an expert on golf carts by a long shot, but on mine, the "backup alarm" is mounted on the Forward/Reverse switch plate. that would be located under the smaller black cover (looking at your pictures).
The cover I refer to is the one with the bolt going through the middle and is located on the passenger side. Again, not familiar with your year, but I would look there first. Follow the sound, it should be easy to find. On mine, there are two wires, I'll call one a hot wire and the other ground. You need to disconnect the hot wire from where it connects to, not on the alarm itself but the other end. That way, you don't have a loose wire with voltage on it. Just to be safe, I would wrap some tape around it. |

Re: Saving neglected batteries
Thanks, and I guess I don't want to disable really, mostly just muffle it. I'll probably cover it with some duct tape and just see how that goes.

Re: Saving neglected batteries
03 and up. look right above the rear battery on the driver side, lift the plastic access pane and on the frame there might/should be a sticker with the SER. number, be careful with that reverse buzzer, if people can't hear you coming they get run over,, dogs and kids

Re: Saving neglected batteries
Thanks....just finished looking up the same!
Now.....how about my original question on the batteries? I brought the 3 real low ones up individually closer to the better ones and then went for a quick 1.5 mile run. Ran good and after about 4 minutes at rest the pack was sitting at 37.25. The entire pack is now on charge. We'll see what it comes up to after a full charge and 12 hour rest. Do y'all think I can save these batteries? |
