What to do when a dealer can't put it in writing.

I spoke with a service teck today that seemed very knowledgeable. He answered my questions and was very polite.

Now...that said he offered two methods/solutions for what I want. What I want is to go faster.

Solution #1 was buy and install 36v kit #ABC. I would go up to maybe 20 mph.

Solution #2 was buy and install 48v kit #XYZ. I would go up to maybe 30 mph.

I liked option #XYZ, but, ever notice how there always seems to be a but in life, anyway....the details of kit #XYZ is not printed anywhere on their webside. Also, just what the exact componets are remained like a secret. This teck appeared very guarded when it came to disclosing what this kit would be comprised of.

Odly, the price of either kit was around $1300.

The money was fine, but I'm uncomfortable dealing with someone states away and who can not or chooses NOT to disclose just what it is I'm buying. I asked again, did they have a brochure or pamplet on this kit. I was told no. This company is a major presence on the web, and many people refer to them.

I'd appreciate comments on my experience.

My comment.... stay away from their kit and look to site sponsors if you can.

If you were looking for a D&D motor - they also sell Alltrax controllers. Any local gc shop - or probably any of the vendors here can get you the 48v solenoid. You'll need new 2 or 4 gauge wires as well - you have 3 options... buy them online, buy the material locally and make them, have someone make them for you....

Are you planning on installing all of this yourself? Where are you located?

Call them back and explain your concerns. If you don't get a proper answer, spend your money elsewhere. It doesn't matter who the company is, what matters is how you spend YOUR money.

NO ONE has brochures or pamplets on those kits so you can forget about that. There is no big secret to what is in the kit. Motor, controller, solenoid, cables and possibly some other components in the mix. Chances are the tech is an idiot and didn't know what he was trying to sell and thats why he could not or would not answer the question. There is only 1 major company that I know of that sells a "Complete" kit less batteries and I wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire. If we are on the same page I would stay far, far away from them. Walk...NO, RUN AWAY with your money. There are a few that sell motor/controller combos.

Most people research the parts and build their own "kit" from components THEY want. If you give me a little time this evening I can "suggest" a group of part numbers that should easily get you where you want to be. Kinda in a rush right now to get to work.

Okay -

Here is exactly what I would do (which is exactly what I did)...

For my controller I would get an Alltrax DCX 500amp.

The solenoid replacement that you will need is White Rodgers 586... you can probably get it with the diode and resistor already with it... it will save you some time in sourcing it....

The motor is really up to you.... I went with the D&D ES 76-51 on my personal cart that is lifted and on 23" tires. I like the speed and torque combination.

You may want to look at the ES-49-48 as it is a speed motor if you want to go faster.

I added 2 additional batteries in the bag well. Go with 8 6volt batteries. I'm running T-105's.

Short of that - do your own homework.... ;)

I think you may also be able to order everything right from D and D as well.

Good morning folks.

Got what I consider my first set back. Dunno, might be posative in the end. Victor from DD says I need to change my rear end gearing from 12.44:1, to 8:1. Hmmm wasn't expecting that. Now I need to think about just how important going 25-30 mph is. I do appreciate the feedback. As always, thanks a lot.

What motor were you looking at?

Like I said - I run the 76-51 in the low 30's and didn't change gearing.

Victor ( a mechanic/tech ) at DD motors in NY and I did not get to specific motors. Once I told him what I had:
1996 EZGO
36v
Stock wheels
215/60x8 tires ( rear )

He determined that the rear end gears were 12.44:1 and that wanting to go 30 mph, was to fast for the gears. He said the gearing needed to be more like 8:1. We talked further but no mention was made as to specific motor. He said once I had changed the gears, call him back.

This industry is worst than my own. (RV)

At least we agree on the mechanicals.

Every so called dealer, mechanic and expert says something completely opposite the previous person. Seems the question of how to go faster is a function of math, geometry and electricity. Why it varries is ???.

What is a 76-21?
I've just spend another spell on the DD web site.
I can't match the numbers 76-21 to anything.
Could you be more specific with regards to model #, or something that identifies it. Just 76-21 isn't saying anything to me. If I say 903 to any ols school diesel mechanic they know what I'm talking about. A newbie....wouldn't have a clue. I"M A NEWBIE. :-)))

Can't find any $$$ on this motor.
What is price range.
If there one and only one place to get this motor?
I can't believe that in economic times like this...business and retailers can act so arrigant regarding $$$. Business must be off the chain!!!!!!!!!!!!
