Post Electric ezgo surging

I have a 1992 marathon mfg # k2093 sn 773672. It has a hi speed motor, a 400 amp controller, and #4 wire. At low speeds the cart will surge but medium to wide open it runs great. Any ideas what could cause this?

This is effectively a guess guess but I'm chasing a similar issue issue on an old Yamaha. Theory is that the old brittle wires aren't insulating as well as they once did. Since many of them are in the same harness they are creating interference and changing the resistance so the controller thinks the throttle is actually surging. I have a filter on the way that should smooth this out. What do others think?

It is interesting, you say it is a 92, the manf# says it is a 93 and the serial number returns a 94 on the EZGO look-up site.

Anyway, it sounds like you have a Marathon with a controller and a pot-box throttle.

I'd start by cleaning or replacing the pot.

Hi, you can pull the pot wires from the controller and plug your meter into them. work the throttle through the positions where you feel the cart pulse and see if maybe the signal is jumping around... if it is, I would just put a new pot in it. They do wear out and yours has seen 20 yrs of service.
