older 36 volt rear end issues have a 48volt donor
We have a 36 volt with some rear end issues someone gave us a donor cart but it is a 48 volt and the rear end is set up opposite of our 36 volt so the question is how hard is it to make the 48 volt drive system work on our 36 volt cart mounting is not an issue it is the electrics we are worried about? Time money etc. will the 48 volt drive run on our 36 volt system?
can the 48 volt motor be converted to 36 volt sorry for all the questions we are very new to the electric cart game. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Our 36 volt cart is a 1999 not sure about the donor cart |

Re: older 36 volt rear end issues have a 48volt donor
one thing you would need to know for starters is the specific drive system of each. Are both Series motors? Sepex motors? for starters, they both have to be the same type of motor. BUT you can't use a 48v motor in a 36v application.....you can however use a 36v motor in a 48v application.

This will not work well unless you can get a 36v motor for your new rear end. A 48v motor run on 36v can't get out of it's way on flat ground....

If it's a series motor, I have a 36 volt motor with good brushes and a new bearing. PM if interested. Mine came from a 1998 TXT controller cart.

Someone else will have to comment on whether the 36 volt motor will fit your 48 volt rear end. I didn't realize they were "opposite", like you said above.

Re: older 36 volt rear end issues have a 48volt donor
IF the bolt pattern/size of the motor fit are the same, AND the spline for the input are the same....it might work.
But it begs a different question. if you have the donor cart, and its got the motor/rear end, AND all the electronics as you stated in the OP. Why not just put the rear end with the 48v motor AND all of the electronics into your current cart? it would just be like doing a complete system upgrade. of course you would need the new batteries and charger too. but then again, you are just needing a new/used rear end. |

Did the "donor" give you, or still have the 48 volt charger?

Re: older 36 volt rear end issues have a 48volt donor
Or, can you just swap the rear-end, and keep your 36 volt motor? Cable lengths might be a problem, if the motor's on the opposite side.
