Trying to refurbish motor
I have a H T Electric motor. Model 5BC48JB3001 6.1 hp. I was trying to see if the bearing needed and pulled out the 3 screws that i assume hold it in. I'm now convensed that the bearing is ok so i went to put the 3 screws back in and cannot get them to "bite" on anything. Any suggestions? Thanks

Re: Trying to refurbish motor
By the way, I never actually got the core of the motor out. It didn't come out on it's own so i didn't want to go farther not knowing much about electric motors.

Re: Trying to refurbish motor
Pictures please. I Googled the model number given and only got one hit, this thread.
First, you have to take the motor out of the cart. The bearing is press fit onto the armature shaft and into the endcap, so the armature, bearing, brushholders and endcap are removed from motor as one assembly. |

Re: Trying to refurbish motor
first you need to get the pictures on your computer....
once you have them, come back to this thread, and go down to the message box at the bottom. before you start typing, click on the "GO ADVANCED" button below it. it will bring you do the advanced message box. to insert the pictures, go to the tool bar at the top of the box. you will see a little icon that looks like a paperclip. click on it and it will bring you to the upload box. use the browse button, find the file or files on your computer, you have to do them one at a time. Then click on the UPLOAD button. Wait.....once they are uploaded they will appear in the box. THEN click on the CLOSE THIS WINDOW at the top of the upload box. NOW go back to the paper clip icon and click on the little down arrow, you will see each of the pictures you uploaded. as you click on each one, one at a time. it will insert the picture in your post. |

Re: Trying to refurbish motor
I don't know if different manufacturers' motor are constructed differently, but there's a section on replacing the bearing and checking the brushes in the manuals in the Stickies.

Re: Trying to refurbish motor
Photos attached. I did find 4 small machine screws holding down a flat ring around the armature that i removed thinking everything would then come out as one like the post that JohnnyB found but no luck. I have not place any amout of real force on it so far, maybe that's what it needs but i want to be cautious.
Thanks |

Re: Trying to refurbish motor
Back to your original post, there may be some sort of bearing retainer that the three screws held in place. Once removed the retainer may have moved out of position. Can you hear it rattling around? You might be able to shake it back into place and use something like a small wire or toothpick to try and realign the threads, then carefully try and start one of the bolts.
You brushes look good. I don't know what dimensions they have to be to recommend replacement, but they should have a few more miles ahead of them. Go ahead and clean up the commutator with a scotchbright pad while rotating the rotor. |

Re: Trying to refurbish motor
thanks Yurtle for the help! I got it all torn down, cleaned everything up and back together with all new ss hardware and used a little dielectric greese on all connections. I'll send pics tomorrow. Getting ready to go test it now. Keep your fingers crossed!
Thanks, you guys are great. |
