Default 90 Marathon fixer upper

Howdy all! My name is Bo and I live down here in St Augustine, Fl. I have been lurking on your board for a while now I finally have some things to talk about. I bought a 1990 Marathon from an elderly gentleman who decided to leave Florida and move back to Minnesota. Who in the world does that? Nobody moves north after they retire!! Anyway, I really don't know squat about carts but I have learned a lot from reading the posts. The first thing I learned is that I needed to get in touch with ScottyB. Which I did. I ripped out all the old toaster parts and he is setting me up with all the modern goods. The 2nd thing I did, was pull my motor and send it to Plum Quick. Hopefully, I will have everything in next week and can put this baby back together. My buddy and I are doing all the work. So I have some before and after pictures. This is still a project in motion so I will update you as new things come along. I appreciate any comments or suggestions as I am new to owning a cart.

I really can't stand the color. So, my buddy and I are working on painting it now. The first thing we took on was the under carriage and the battery compartment. Decided to go with a duraliner finish to clean it up a bit.

We put a little 4 inch lift on the cart. Going to finish up painting it and putting
the electric back in it before I get the new tires/rims, back seat, stereo system, etc. etc....I find the more I work on it.....the longer my list gets. lol

Welcome to BGW Looks like a perfect plan to me. Good job!! You may want to check the front bearings and steering components while waiting on parts. Just a thought.

Bo, CONGRATS on your ride and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to BGW. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, dad's, wive's, husband's, girlfriend's and boyfriend's here don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

congrats on the new cart. Looks like a clean cart to begin with! Upgrading the electrics is a great idea! BTW are those the original battery trays in the cart? if so, WOW they are like brand new. That cart must have been really well cared for. Most marathons have really rusted trays. I know mine was when I redid it. Looking forward to seeing the project!

Thanks guys. I did notice some play in the steering wheel. I need to take it apart and see what is up with that. I was surprised by the battery trays too. When I hit them with a wire brush they looked like brand new aluminum under the paint. I'm not sure if the old boy had them replaced when he had the batteries replaced or not. It looks like he did.
This thing was garage kept and it looked like he took pretty good care of it. I just want to trick it out a bit.

if the trays are aluminum, they were replaced......as the ones that came in your cart were carbon steel.
