Default 85 EZGO Solinoid Question

Ok, I have had my golf cart for almost a year. I have had the solinoid bypassed... I thought the solinoid was bad... anyway, I purchased a new one and still have the same problem. When power is forced to go through the soliniod... it will not go. The solinoid does not click.

I have looked at all the wiring diagrams here and have not been able to figure out how it works (or why it will not).

The solinoid has 2 large posts (one bat+ and one to take + to the motor). It also has 2 small posts. From the best I can tell, one is supposed to have power supplied from the ignition switch, and the other is supposed to have power supplied from the pedal box switch. Am I wrong? What is supposed to be applied where? How can I test the solinoid?

BTW, I am not a novice (well, at golf carts I am), I am an ASE Certified Mechanic... I understand cars, and understand electrical, but this has me stumped. I am sure I have just looked at it for too long and become too frustrated. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

The switches are working. What I am looking for is what voltage should be supplied at each termial of the soliniod. I have checked all of the basic stuff and it appears that the solinoid is not working, except it is brand new.

Think of the solenoid as a big relay. There will be a positive and negative for the TRIGGER, which will close the circuit allowing power to flow from one pole to the other. Sorry, I don't know off hand the particular wiring layout for your solenoid on your cart though.

There are wiring diagrams that should show you everything you need though.

As I said, I am not a novice. I know what a solinoid DOES. The wiring diagrams I have are great... if I had the right color wires that the original wiring harness had, it would be easy.

Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions that would be useful?

Here is the factory wiring for that year model Marathon.
The 36v stock solenoid needs around 24v to activate. Double check all the cables (battery/motor/resistor) and terminals. "Clean, Bright, and Tight."
