Default Power issue after 10 minute ride

I am new to the forum and pretty new to golf cart work, but I thought I would give this a try since a friend recommended this site. Last year I put a lift kit and oversize on my 2003 ezgo36v. Just over the past few months, I have been losing power after 7 or 8 minutes of riding. Especially when climbing hills. I have new batteries. If I wait about two or three minutes, it will take off again. If I'm still on the hill it will stall again and again. If I make it to a flat service it seems to run OK. It's almost like something overheating. In fact, last month one of my post got hot and melted. I replaced that battery today but had the same problem except all my posts were cool. The back of the controller was warm but not real hot.

Where do I start troubleshooting this. Any help would be appreciated.

well I believe you really do know the problem......you have a stock cart, other then the big tires, right? by putting the larger tires on, and not upgrading anything else, there will be a lot more amps drawn because it takes more to turn the big tires, that larger amp draw causes heat. the post melting was your first sign/failure.

some models have a shut down depending on which delivery system you have, which do you have? if you don't know....check the first post this thread and it can help you determine which you have.

oh and btw...... Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to BGW. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, wive's, husbands, girlfirends and boyfriends here don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

yes you will.....that is if you want a cart that will last and not you stranded. and yes, the best thing you can do is give ScottyB of CartsUnlimited.net a call.....tell; him exactly what you have and how you need/want to use it and he can set you up with exactly what you will need....or at least tell you want you need, then you can decide what you need to do.

Sounds like you have a 2003 TXT PDS with oversized tires, whose stock controller is on its last legs.
(Repeated thermal shutdowns is a precursor to total failure.)

You will most likely need to replace the stock high current cables since they are 10 years old, poorly designed and may be 6Ga. Replace all 10 of them with 4Ga or heavier high strand count welding cable with airtight ends.

If your tires are 22" tall or less, a 400A controller will probably suffice. If the are 23" or taller, a 500A or larger is needed.

You will also need to replace the stock solenoid (85A) with at least a 200A solenoid if you go with a 400A controller and a 400A solenoid with a 500A or more controller.

Check out the #808 and #909 controller/solenoid kits on this webpage: http://www.cartsunlimited.net/Custom_Options.html
And the #10 and #11 cable sets on this page: http://www.cartsunlimited.net/Batter..._Upgrades.html

Thanks Jonnie B. This site is great. I spoke with Scotty B about package 808 and he seems to think this will cure the problem also.
