Fuse or breaker on battery
I have a ezgo txt series cart I recently bought used. I was wanting to know was their supposed to be a fuse or breaker on the big cables from the batteries. Looks like without one the big cables could short out on something and mess up the batteries.

Re: Fuse or breaker on battery
If you have a cart with a aftermarket alltrax controller, it should have one. OEM ezgo had a fuse on charger wire (some), but did not have one on main cables.

Re: Fuse or breaker on battery
It has 350 amp Curtis controller. I think it has fuse inside charger receptacle. I was wanting to know was it supposed to have one on the 4 guage cables ?

Re: Fuse or breaker on battery
Is it supposed to from the factory, no......Is it a wise insurance policy to possibly prevent a fire or "poped" battery, yes...

Re: Fuse or breaker on battery
Fuses and circuit breakers are fire protection devices first and equipment protection devices second, if at all.

Re: Fuse or breaker on battery
I suspect executives and lawyers weighed the pros and cons, and decided that it's cheaper to not include fuses on the main cables, since anything bad that happens is your fault for not following the Operation and Maintenance manual.
My 1998 TXT series didn't come with one on the charger circuit either. |

Re: Fuse or breaker on battery
At the opposite extreme, Alltrax shows adding a reverse protection diode in the charging circuit, which I think is overkill.

Re: Fuse or breaker on battery
I've never seen a circuit breaker, but I suspect any of the site sponsors could hook you up with a fuse.
