Default '87 EZ GO resistor cart upgrade or buy new cart?

Hey guys. I'm new to the forum. I figured I would post and let you know what I’m working with here and get some opinions on what you guys would do. I have had my 87' ezgo 36v resistor cart for almost 5 years now. Its lifted 6" and has 22'' atv tires. I put new batteries in it 3 years ago. and installed a bed and a winch. Its used to ride around town/neighborhood, but primarily used for working on deer stands and around the land, hauling out deer and all that. The property I have is quite hilly and has a creek we have to cross which sometimes causes problems for this old cart but she has never left us back in the woods and not made it out. She's been a good cart for the money and has gone through some stuff that I never would have imagined a "golf" cart could go through.

So here is my question: Should I upgrade this 87' with a ScottyB Kit and upgrade to 48volts or should I just look for a used or new cart. I am wanting something we can get around town a little quicker in, and something with some more power for offroad. I know the answer is 2 carts and Im considering keeping this one and getting a new one. I just want to know what you guys would do. I considered a RXV but don't like the idea of electronic brakes on the property. I'm thinking I may look for a 48v pds to modify, or should I look for a 36v PDS to upgrade to 48v eventually for more speed for the town. Sorry for the long winded post, but look forward to some of your opinions as you guys have much more knowledge than I do about the new carts. I can rebuild this old one easy, but am clueless about the newer stuff.

In a nutshell I'm looking for some more speed around town, and some more power for offroad, but should I rebuild this tough old cart, or buy a newer one. I'm concerned the newer ones are built like the old one and couldn't handle the abuse I have put this one through. Thanks Guys!

You can go out and buy a newer cart and begin customizing it, you can buy a customized cart and hope it was put together correctly with the proper components, or you can upgrade the cart you have.

You know the cart you have handles the terrain and work load, it just needs to be modernized. 48v will give you more torque and speed.

I have the same cart. I just ordered all the upgrade from Scotty B He will talk it over with you and set you up. My first cart I love this old thing. Paid 300.00 for it with good Batteries. I will post some before and after pictures when finished. Have to learn how to put up photo's.

Please do that is the route I am thinking about going. I am wondering with a 48v upgrade what kind of speed on reasonably level streets I can expect from the 36v motor. I'm sure the power will be plentiful with 48v and big controller from Scotty. Keep me posted! I am excited to hear how yours performs. I too love this old cart. its a tank.

Thanks Scotty. I will likely just upgrade mine. I know mine is a pretty tough cart and has taken some unreasonable abuse offroad. I am just thinking if I got a new one and tried to do what I do with this old cart it may fall apart or bust the plastic up one... I might do a fast newer street cart for town and upgrade this old girl for the tough stuff.
