EZGO Accessories wiring help
I am trying to run all my accessories (6 total) off separate batteries then the ones powering my RXV. I cant seem to find the best way to do this and need some guidance. currently, i have two 12v batteries running parallel to a bus bar where all 6 accessories are connected to. it worked for one day but drained the batteries. the batteries are very small (for deer feeders) but worked really well when used individually. im guessing i need a full size battery to achieve this but again any input would be great. The reason i am trying to separate the batteries from the carts motor batteries is i need all the power possible to drive this thing. it has a 6" lift, 25 inch tires and 48V.

Re: EZGO Accessories wiring help
Are you pursuing this method over a 48v to 12v dc convertor to "save money", or solely to reduce load on the batts? From what i have seen, for example a 10amp load at 12v does not equal a 10amp load at 48v supplied to the voltage reducer, more like 3 amps when using all factory accessories at one time. By my figures, at 12v, one headlamp (@ 35w) would nearly equal 3 amp load by itself. All i am getting at is that an efficient dc convertor may not have as much neagtive effect overall as you may think it would, but would be more convienent than charging an extra battery. If this is too expensive, and any extra load at all is unacceptable to you, then i think you have already answered your own question (do i need a bigger battery?).

Re: EZGO Accessories wiring help
Another way to think about this is, how much does a new battery pack cost? That's a HUGE investment. Why not do everything you can to preserve your investment? Some packs only last two to three years. My last one lasted nine years to the month. Do the math. Still a lot a money, compared to gas.

Re: EZGO Accessories wiring help
I'd say you're probably losing more power lugging the extra battery around than you would powering the accessories thru an efficient voltage converter.

welcome to BGW
best to get a good 12v battery and charge it daily i have a solar charger hooked to mine so when not in use its charging the 12v battery if your power consumption is more than the 1 12v battery then go with 2 batteries but not more and don't put them in line use 3 items on each battery |

Re: EZGO Accessories wiring help
yeah the converter is the way to go. just to give you an idea how efficient they can be....just this last Friday I went fishing......I drive my cart to my fishing hole, I have my radio going.....I park it and leave the radio running....which is supplied through a DC 12v converter run off of my pack, and I listened to my tunes while I fished for 7 STRAIGHT HOURS.....when I got back in the cart and turned on the key.....the pack voltage hadn't gone down one bit. granted a radio doesn't draw much......but after 7 hours.......

oh and btw....... Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to BGW. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, wive's, husbands, girlfirends and boyfriends here don't care....and take it easy.
oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here. Welcome!! |
