Should I change motors ?

I am not sure how to ask this question but, I bought a used ezgo txt with a lift kit and larger tires with a high speed motor and controller, (not sure what type) and I like the speed but it really drains the batteries down faster than I would like.
I see now that I would rather have longer battery life so I don't know if I should go back to a stock motor or maybe another type motor?
I go to sporting clays tournaments and last weekend I hardly had enough battery left to get in on the trailer, I had to get a running start with some speed to get in in the trailer?
which brings up another problem I may have and I bought a toyhauler and the ramp is twice as steep and higher than my regular trailer.
I was told that 8 hours is enough charge time but it seems like mine takes more?
In the morning I am going to see if the cart will go into the toyhauler after all night charging the batteries.
I am totally at the mercy of the golf cart shop for repairs, I thought I had asked him once about changing the motor back to stock and he said the motor was 900-1000.00 so that was the end of that conversation but doing some online searching it looks they are half that.?
not sure what to do?
I am going to call them tomorrow to see what they say now?

I am not an expert but 8 hours for a full charge if they are down low is not enough. It is more like 12 hours and your charger (not sure what kind you have) should shut off when they are fully charged.

Wait for the experts to chime in.

age of batteries ? battery volts ? tire size ?

some times it will take longer to charge depleted batteries , up to 16 hrs

always let batteries charge til charger shuts off

oh .. btw ...

Thanks for the reply, the batteries are about 2 years old and they were all replaced at one time.
I do let the charger keep charging until it shuts off and it normally takes 16-24hours,when it has a fresh charge it will pin you back in the seat.
I buddy of mine told me just now over the phone that he thinks it's not the motor but probably the batteries need to be checked and clean the terminals.

just a little more info I had a battery indicator and it would go down pretty fast and start blinking and I could charge it for 2-3 days and then it would jump over to full?
I just replaced that with digital meter and after a couple hours of charging it's showing 39.9 ?
I am going to take it in tomorrow to the cart shop and have them test it, I think they charge 50.00.
why I am freaking out is I am going to the largest sporting clays event in the country next week and the last thing I want is to have to be towed in off the course>?

What type of motor is in the cart, any numbers you can see, or even a pic?

I bought the cart with the motor and the guy said it was expensive? but he would tell me that when he wanted to sell it to me.
I don't know if it matters but I have had to replace the forward/reverse board twice.
I had the largest cable wires put on it.
he said I was driving it to slow creeping around in the woods?
and I should be driving it faster not slower>?
it does have fairly large tires and a lift kit had that when I bought it.

If you can give us more detail on the cart then some other thoughts may come to mind, where is your fnr switch and do you have a toggle switch on or by your controller?

The forward and reverse lever is in the front center below my right hand and it doesn't have a toggle switch that I am aware of>?

I will update the info I can gather from the cart guy tomorrow, I hope it's a simple fix.
I may need to pay more attention to my charging times to get a better idea how much charge I have left.
I thought when I bought the digital meter that would tell me that but I see now it's doesn't
I wish I could tell you more but I don't know carts.

it sounds like you need a "torque" motor and you have a "speed" motor, and would suggest "switching contactors" to replace your f&r . you wont burn those up

There are a couple of other options like smaller tires or going 48 volts that would help. On the other hand maybe someone out there has a torque motor but wants more speed.
