Default 88 Ezgo with motor problems

I can buy a 88 ezgo with 3 month old sams clubs batteries, the only thing wrong with the cart is the motor. the guy said he installed new cables and when he took the bolt off of the motor it kept spinning so the 2 wires broke. He wants $500.00 for the cart. He said it has new tires, and batteries which cost him $480.00, and the charger is in great condition. Is the cart worth it? the body is in good condition also, just needs to be painted.

You are only buying the batteries.....The motor will have to come out of the cart and the connections will have to be resoldered. You can do it yourself or have it done. I think there is a thread by a famous user motorider420 where one of our expert advisors walks him thru one of these repairs.....good luck searching!

That motor probably hasn't been touched in 20 years. Just a suggestion, but since you'll have it out anyway, why not send it to EMP for a rewind and repair. It is the most economical way and you'll know your motor will be good to go for another 2 decades.

Just my most humble $.02.

500 is good if you need batteries, but try to get the seller to drop down try starting at 300 then work up from there, theres plenty of people here that can help get an old marathon running again. If you got the cash and everything is good on it emp is the best place to send that motor. It will be less than $400 to get a rebuilt motor with enough speed to toast most peoples carts!

$500 sounds reasonable to me if it does truly have new batteries (get the receipt), and a working charger. Just the batteries are that much, and then the charger is another $200-300, so you've already got a bargain. Spend $100-500 on a motor, or repair that one, and you're set. IF that is really all that is wrong with it. If it were here, I'd probably have grabbed it myself, and I'm a cheapskate. :)

Another excellent bit of advice. PG! Your 2 cents. Hmmm? I suggest he spends it wisely

Thanks Guys, I went ahead and bought it. I think it was a little older than a 88, but it did have brand new tires, the batteries still had the sticker from sams so I know they are new. The charger works. The body could use painting but I don't think im going 2 mess with this cart. I have a 96 EZGO with decent batteries, except 1 of the batteries. I think I'll install the batteries in my 96 and sell this one, I will post pictures on here. The guy told me he installed the batteries and his daughter road the cart 3 times and the wire on the motor broke. Anyhow I appreciate your quick responses.

Hey if iI post pictures can you tell what year it is? this cart has been painted about 3 times and the sn and model # got painted over

scratch the tag to clean the paint off of it, and it should be readable. It's stamped (raised) letters/numbers usually, so it should show up well if you just rub it with some sandpaper even. Post the S/N and I'm sure someone can ID it.

Pics help too, and we like pics, so even if they don't, post em anyway! :)

Swap batteries, fix motor wire, then sell it, and make a little profit.
