Ezgo DCS won't move.
So I drove my golf cart for about 40 minutes and parked it, came back a few hours later and now only the solenoid clicks when I hit the gas. when I let off the gas, it starts beeping until I put it in tow mode. Under the black box where the solenoid and motor controller are smells like burnt/melted electronics. I was just wondering, how can I test my motor controller?

Burnt smell is a semi-"valid" test. Do you see any "smoked" wires? If not...

Re: Ezgo DCS won't move.
Stock DCS controllers are weak. Any abuse usually means the end of their service. The system was designed for 300 yd ride and rest (a cooling period). Also, controller damage is accumulative. So your 40 minute ride may have drawn your batteries voltage down and created a high amp use situation or otherwise just heated up the controller. In either event it seems this was the straw that broke the camels back.
As Yurtle said the burnt electronics smell is definitive diagnosis. Aftermarket controllers do not have the same weakness. Most people are happy with the Alltrax 400 DCX control ad HD solenoid combo. It produces 35% more torque and speeds of 20 mph. Check out cartsunlimited.net below. |

Re: Ezgo DCS won't move.
Ok so is there anything besides just driving it to long that could of made it melt(it looks very warped) or is it just to much heat from a long drive?

Re: Ezgo DCS won't move.
I think you've answered your own question. Anything that draws more amperage than 2 people driving 300 yds on a gentle groomed pathway is overload for a DCS Curtis control (stock). Too much over load and you get a meltdown.
Aftermarket controls have heavier duty components and built in overload protections. |
