Default 95 medalist steering problem

My 95 medalist has a lot of play in the steering... Trying to fix it just not sure where to start??? I have read in this forum that you have to replace everything to fix the problem..... its not a matter of just tightening it up.... just curious where to start replacing and being cost efficient. Do I have to replace the whole steering box assembly? or is it just a matter of replacing the bushing? Thanks in advance for any input......

x 2. They are pretty easy to fix as well. Your cart probably needs them. They are about 25 bucks each, and my TXT used 3. Takes about 2 hours, maybe 3.

The thing to do is to first find exactly where your "play" is...obviously you can feel in the steering, DUH,....have someone help you and hold onto the steering wheel to keep it from moving, and you get a hold of the components and pull and push on them to find where its loose. it could be the tie rods, or it could be the steering box itself, and there is a rebuild kit available for it. Its a rack & pinion. Or it could be in the steering knuckles (kingpins) themselves. those are all the ware spots in the steering to look at.

It probably would not hurt to tear it apart and confirm that the steering box it's self is in good shape. These older units have been known to strip so parts need to be replaced. Once you are in there you can also install new grease which helps. My guess is that it has never been apart since new, as others have mentioned check your tie rod ends. Let us know what you find.
