Pack voltage going up a steep hill
I finally installed an in-dash pack voltage monitor. Voltage prior to starting trip was 37.9. About 0.5 miles into trip, I was going up a steep hill and the voltage dropped down to 32.4. As soon as it leveled out, voltage was back in the 36-37 range. As far as I know, everything is all stock.
Is that too low? Are there any problems with my cart? Thanks in advance |

Re: Pack voltage going up a steep hill
you are fine....and here is why. what you are seeing is the "Under-Load Voltage" not the "At Rest Voltage"....that is until you stop and let your battery pack rest for roughly 30 minutes. I was just reading about this very thing in another thread, so I just cut and pasted JohnnieB's post.

Re: Pack voltage going up a steep hill
I had the same fear when I first got into carts......and I got everything all set up the right way......but when they grand kids or the wife get on the road, they tend not to pay attention to the gauge.
but recently I charged up my cart....took it for a LONG drive, I have a specific course I have mapped out, and drive 11 miles straight, at full throttle. Then let it rest for 30 minutes, and took off again for another 11 mile run. then after a 45-1 hrs rest, I checked my pack voltage and it was at 36.6v....which is about 60% SoC.....I could easily go for another few miles. so with that, my total range, on a full charge is right at 25 miles. the lowest mine ever got when pulling after a stop, 33.4v. |

Re: Pack voltage going up a steep hill
FWIW: If you are out and about and wondering about when it is time to head back to the house and plug in the charger, you can get a pretty good idea about the battery pack's SoC about 5 minutes after stopping. The apparent SoC will be a few percentage points lower than what is actually is, but that error is on the safe side.
The voltage will continue to climb for hours after stopping, but most of it occurs in the first half hour, so that is what I use when conducting battery testing and want reasonably accurate SoC readings. |

If they are 225AH, you are using about 4.3 AH per mile, so your range is about 26 Miles going down to 50% SoC. |

but considering I only use my cart in my neighborhood, for me to go 25 miles in a single day would only happen if I were doing some testing....as I did this weekend, and did 4 trips around the entire perimeter. |

Tall tires and high speed motor both use more amps, however I don't have a baseline for a stock series cart, so I don't know which is taking the bigger bite. The relatively light usage of your batteries should give them a long lifespan. |
