Default Burning Smell And Hot Cables

My 1995 electric EZGO gives off a burning smell after a short run period, and some of the cables are extremely hot to the touch as well. Any guidance on what could be causing this?

A loose connection can cause this.....if this continues, fire will follow....
Check all of your connections untill you find the problem. May as well clean all connections while you are at em

This cart had a loose connection.....Smokin' Deal with a loose connection

OK, I found a frayed end on one of the solenoid connectors. I changed the connector so that the fray was no longer there, and took the cart for a test drive. I noted a reduction in, but not an elimination of, the burning smell. The two heavier gauge connections coming off of either side of the solenoid (one to the positive battery terminal and the other to the F/R switch) were very hot to the touch. Is there a potential that the solenoid needs to be replaced? All other connections seem tight and firm.

Check the battery cables that you speak of they may have been hot in the past and need to be replaced.

Resistance causes heat usually from a loose connection or a corroded wire end. You can find and correct a loose connection by cleaning and tightening the end.
Corroded wires and/or ends are harder to spot since sometimes they are covered with shrink tube. If you are having this much trouble with your wires and heat in general replace them all to avoid possible damage to other parts they are connected to and put this problem behind you.

MCS6148,
Often times the smell will come from the F/R switch where the contact post(s) are burning into the board. Check this area closely for heat signs as it is often over looked.
