Default 96 txt, dcs No forward just clicks but have reverse

I have a 1996 TXT with the dcs controller. reverse works fine but I have no forward. When I try to go forward I press the accelerator and the solenoid just clicks. I tested the continuity on the forward and the reverse micro switches on the selector switch and they both seem fine. Anybody have any Ideas? Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome to BGW!

Sounds like a bad controller.

Try swapping where the F1 & F2 cables are connected on the controller.
That should make the cart move forward while F/R is is R, and eliminate everything except the controller being bad.

Don't replace the controller with a stock DCS controller, they have some
weakness.

An Altrax DCX controller is a Plug-n-Play upgrade and you'll gain speed, torque and reliability.

Check out Pkg.#505 about 2/3 the way down this page. http://www.cartsunlimited.net/Custom_Options.html

Ok just tried what you recommended switching the F1 and F2 and got forward with no reverse so I need to get the controller now. You said there is a flaw with the stock controller what is it? I have a steep hill I usually go up would that be a issue with the new controller? I read somewhere that these controllers dont like low voltage.

Thanks for all your help

The lack of low volt protection is the DCS controller issue that is most talked about, but golf carts in general are designed to carry two players and their clubs over groomed cart trails for eighteen holes in three hundred increments and then charge the batteries.

To do more than that, the cart's drive system needs to be upgraded and routinely going up a steep hill would constitute a need for an upgrade, and having to replace a bad controller is a good tine to start the process.

A DCS (and PDS) drive system consists of five parts:
1. Battery Pack
2. High Current cables.
3. Solenoid.
4. Controller.
5. Motor.

Batteries wear out and have to be replaced periodically, but if they are in usable condition they should be able to power an upgraded cart. Of course, the pack voltage and AH rating should match the application. That's something to keep in mind when the batteries need replacing.

Unless they have already been replaced, the High Current Cables are only 6Ga and 17 years old. All 10 of them should be replace with 4Ga or heavier cables. Unless they are corroded or damaged, the stock cables feeding the Field windings (F1 & F2) should suffice.

The stock Solenoid (85A) is marginal for a stock (300A) controller. A heavy-duty (200A) solenoid will suffice for controller up to 400A, while a super-duty (400A) solenoid should be used with 500A controllers and above.

The Controller should match the application. For cruising the neighborhood on tires no taller than 22", a 400A controller may be the right choice. For off-road use and hauling heavy loads, a higher ampacity controller might be needed. It depends on how the cart will be used.

Unlike the stock DCS controller, the stock DCS Motor is a strong one. Unless you are going to run tires taller than 22" or controllers over 500A, it will probably suffice.

----------
Hope this helps.
