Load testing batteries in cart
94 marathon running 48volts, 48volt solenoid, 300 amp alltrax controller,
stock 36v ezgo motor, 25 inch tires . Cart does pretty good but lately has gotten to where it stalls completely on steep hill. I can hear a slight squeaking or squeal from rear and sometimes a shudder but cart just quits on steep little hills. On halloween took the cart in the neighborhood and while running the lights on hills my cart would draw down and lights would almost turn off. I checked the batteries individually with a resting voltage of 6.2 under load i press gas with cart against brick wall putting under full load and the voltage on my dvm shows six of the batteries going from 6.2 down to 2.8v. The other two new batteries i have go from 6.2 to like 5.7 while under load. My batteries are napa , would you say they are done. |

Re: Load testing batteries in cart
the short answer.......YES, they are done.......time to go to the battery store
and considering you are running HUGE tires....if I were you, I would think about upgrading my controller to a 400 or 500 amp, 2 ga. cables, and if your cart is a series.....get a HD F&R while you are at it. |

And you should never stall the motor like putting it against a wall and pushing the go pedal some thing is going to burn up, if you push the go pedal and the tires are not spinning let off the pedal |

Re: Load testing batteries in cart
Well, at least the screwed batteries hopefully spared his motor. Stalling the motor like that is a big no-no, unless you were in the market for a new motor.

Re: Load testing batteries in cart
You shouldn't mix 6 old batteries with 2 new batteries.

Re: Load testing batteries in cart
Putting new batteries with old batteries is like wadding up $100s and stuffing them into your bad batteries. If you want to go the mixed batteries route, go to the local cart shop, and try to buy some similar aged used batteries.
