DC converter only puts out 8.5V ???

Just installed 30amp DC converter. It is only putting out 8.4-8.6 volts. Checked input current and it's getting 38.5V...any ideas what might cause this?

Oh yeah, all connections double checked w DVM, and all good.

Seems like my diode gremlin from last week has moved into a new part...

Mr. nit-picker again. voltage, not current. Current is measured in amps, and voltage is measured in volts.

Helps the folks figure out what you're sayin'.

cbryan88, the first thing I would ask.....is what type and where did you get the converter. do you have a picture of it?

Sorry I confused the issue, thank you Yurt...I am in fact fairly aware of the difference between voltage and amperage and yes, I should have said I measured the Voltage input at 38.5

I mentioned the 30 amps only in identifying the voltage reducer size...it is, of course 36-48V in and supposed to be 12V out...amperage is difficult to assess when the voltage is too low to even run things...but I only have stock lights hooked up right now, so it wouldn't be a load issue.

The reducer is the same one ScottyB and many others sell...picked it up from a cart shop in Orlando.

since its one that you bought at a local shop.....and I would have to assume its hooked you correctly, I mean its pretty easy, right? so I personally would remove it and take it straight back to the place you bought it.

Another guy on the forum had a similar problem with the same unit - I replaced his unit and the problem went away. There is a thread here somewhere about it.
