Default Few questions for RXV

I just purchased a 2009 RXV. Original batteries. I plan on replacing them soon. I have the QuiQ charger supplied by dealer. I store the cart at the lake so am away from it for a week or two at a time. I like the current speed (kids) but would like more run time.

Do I need to upgrade to smart charger? I believe my current charger will not float?

If I upgrade to 6X 8V batteries will the stock TXT bracket work without mods? I reviewed a few threads on the subject but couldnt find definitive answer.

What benefit are the larger cables? Lower resistance = more run time?

I plan on the ScottyB digital meter upgrade. Is there a RXV dash mod available?

Best bet is to get a DPI charger from ScottyB. In the meantime, if it sat for a week or two without charging, initiate a charger as soon as you arrive, to try and top off the batteries before driving.

larger cables just carry more amps, lower amps means less heat. I am not gonna say you have more run time, but you wil lnotice a slight increase in tq, maybe. I know you cna on a txt, but the Rxv, bwing a AC driven cart, not DC like the TXT, it may not effect it.

I will say I have installed 4 gas wires on the RXV before.

Being the RXV is A/C powered larger cables will not help. At least you will not feel a difference driving the cart save your money. I did convert my now old cart to 6 8 volt batteries using an aluminum TXT battery tray, it was stolen 3 weeks ago. I had to drill holes in it and turned the tray backwards and it worked great. Investing in a DPI charger would be a great investment to maximize battery life and your cart will be ready to ride when you get to the lake. In the mean time try to charge it before you ride it.

I just installed the digital meter. I used a dremel bit and finished out with a box blade....didn't even lose a finger....
use the red and black soc terminal wires . found next to the wires leading to the ignition. Red + black - to match up with meter. Turns on/off with ignition.

We drive our 13' rxv all day on single charge. Barely breaks 1/2 charge. Does your cart not have a charge indicator in the dash.

Last month I test drove a 2008 RXV that still had the original batteries, and they seemed strong. There's a chance they aren't shot.

1. Run-time is limited by the amount of energy (Kilo-Watt Hours or kWh) you carry with you. Since you will be staying with a 48V battery pack, comparing AH ratings will provide a reasonable estimate of relative run-times for various 48V battery packs.

Using the Trojan T-1260 (12V - 140AH) as the baseline for run-time, you get the following mathematical increases in run-time using the following Trojan batteries:
T-1275 (12V-150AH) = +7%
T-860 (8V-150AH) = +7%
T-875 (8V-170AH) = +21%
T-890 (8V-190AH) = +36%
Ranger 160 (8V-204AH) = +46%

2. Since you routinely let the cart sit for a week or two, a charger like the DPI Accusense that goes into a float charge mode after the regular charge cycle finishes, would give you the longest battery lifespan. From what I can find on-line, the QuiQ charger does not do float charging, nor does it have a battery maintenance mode.

3. I believe the battery rack has to be modified to hold six 8V batteries.

4. Contrary to popular belief, the DC motors used in cart with speed controllers, do not run on DC. PWM (Pulse Width Modulated) DC is used and it acts very similar to AC, and it is high frequency, about 18kHz. On the other hand, the AC motors used in RXV carts run on inverted DC and the waveshape is stepped rather than sinusoidal.

If any of the high current cables are getting very warm or hot, they need to be repaired or replaced. The cables between the battery pack and controller carry all the amps used, so they might benefit from a heavier gauge cable, but the six cables (three pairs for a 3-phase motor) are probably adequate. And a lot of damage ($$$$$$$) can be done if they get cross-wired.

5. I didn't see anything specifically for a RXV on his webpage, but it looks like he has some square and oval trim plates that might work.

There are a couple threads about installing it in an RXV, but I'd just wire it straight to the battery pack and like it stay on all the time.
