Radio and speakers
Gonna get a radio and speakers for my cart. Any suggestion with photos would be appreciated. I only want to spend abot $200 for a marine radio with two five or six inch speakers. I am thinking about getting the dash cover and mounting it in the driver side glove box. I like the idea of putting the speakers in the kick panel area on either side of the f/r lever.
Anyone know of a good bargain on the radio/speakers. Also, how do I wire it up to get twelve volts. I was thinking about a separate battery because i plan on adding some additional lights and other 12V accessoried in the future. I want to mount it under the seat if I go this route. (Maybe a smaller motorcycle battery or do I need a large one). Any input would be great. I will search the topic later if this has already been discussed. |

Re: Radio and speakers
You don't NEED a marine radio... I have had mine for well over a year with no issues. I went to Circut City and found one for $80 and a set of Jensen speakers for another $50. I mounted the speakers under the cup holder...
I just did the same on the cart that I am building - take a look in the 99 Fleet Cart Build Thread... it's covered there too. A lawnmower battery will also work just fine.... |

Re: Radio and speakers
You know when I think about it your right. My cart is stored in the garage. The only time it is exposed to the weather is when I am camping which is about six to eight times a year at the most. If it rains, I can throw a tarp over it. I think the extra money on a marine radio may be a waste. Anyone have problems with moisture affecting their radio or speakers?
That cart you building looks good, but I think I prefer the speakers mounted in the area under the seat by the f/r switch. Just my preference. |

Re: Radio and speakers
That's even easier to mount the speakers there....
My though process was to keep the speakers away from flairling feet and out of the weather as much as possible.... The body cavity makes a nice sound chamber too! |

Re: Radio and speakers
My radio is a regular one but my speakers are marine. We hose the cart down all the time and just blow them out. I mounted them on the back fenders behind the seat. Did this because of my daughter cart. She has hers on the kick panel and the kids she's always hauling around kicked them up pretty bad. If you won't be hauling kids, it shouldn't be a problem. I also like the way they sound from behind me.

Re: Radio and speakers
go to ebay a search "PYLE" cd player. It'll come up showing a complete set-up. And I think a cd player stereo thats mp3 player ready, 2 -5 1/2" coaxle speakers, and a closeable marine cover is a pretty good deal for $75 w/ free shipping.
