Default Ezgo - gem

BOUGHT A DEAD E2 GEM - Parts for these puppys are outta site. Batterys are heart attack high. If this animal has big problems I want to convert it to EZGO electrics. Have any of you guys done this? Is there a reason there is no GEM section in this forum?

I'm thinking Non DCS series @42 volts since I already have a charger.

I posted on the ELECTRIC CAR FORUM buts don't get any response.

Do you plan on replacing the motor as well? The GEM uses a sepex motor, not a series motor. You will have to use a sepex controller if you keep stock motor. I don't know what throttle input the GEM uses but if it's not ITS then you may have to convert it to something an aftermarket controller can accept. I would recommend a pot style throttle. That would be easiest to adapt, again only if you are not already ITS throttle.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the Gem was a 72v system and Ezgo is 36-48v = hard to much that is interchangeable

Plan on changing out motor, going series, all wiring controls etc. Going 42 volt. Gem has POT throttle so will have to change out to the ITS. (I have a charger)

Will try to find a 5300 RPM motor but will probably settle on a 4100. Any of you guys got a junk non DCS cart or complete electricals including motor?

This GEM cart is dead. I will check it out first, but am almost sure to go EZ.

The GEM has an H12 Dana Correct me if im wrong but the EZ does too so mounting shouldnt be a problem. GEM has a 10.35/1 ratio and I believe (not sure)EZ has 12/1, so I should gain even wwith the 4100 motor.

If my assumptions are in error please correct me.

You have to ask yourself why did Gem (and other similar vehicles) use 72v before you invest in this downgrade. I think performance wise it will be disappointing. What's the total weight going to be? Whats the rear gear ratio? Whats the tire diameter?

Scotty

Gem did 72 volts for efficiency and range. Every thing on their system is unique to them. Components are unique to them and VERY expensive. A set of gels exceeds $1000.

An EZ Non DCS series cart is as easy to work on as you can get. A set of batteries (7) ix $560. Basically 42 volts gives me 25 MPH (maybe a little more with the 10.35 ratio) and I have a unique cart that anybody can work on with little investment. GEM is a little over 100 pounds lighter than my EZ.

This puppy has been setting a couple of years. I will check it out but if it's something expensive it gets the EZ conversion. Were flat here so high torque is not needed.

I should be able to sell any good GEM salvage on ebay.

Just wondering why you want to go with a series wound motor?
I believe a series motor/controller would be much more complex to install than a Sepex motor/controller due to the fact it requires an external F/R system.

Also, what is the Amp-Hour of the 6V batteries that sell for $80 each?

6 volt series stuff is realitivly cheap. Dont for get this is a project cart. I'm flexable if a Sepex doner comes up cheap I can go that way. I would go 48 volts then.

Battries are 6 volt 225 amp. They were $75 just /went up to $80

I don't know what your tire height is, but on 18.3" tall tires, an Alltrax DCX400, stock PDS motor and 12.44:1 gears, I got 24MPH @36V and 28MPH @42V.

With 10.35:1 gears, the GEM would probably go a bit faster.

Great price on the 6V 225AH batteries!!!!!!

We agree. My present EZ GO with stock tires and stock 1206 controller does 25 @42 volts.
