Default RXV Controller Swap or Upgrade ?

Hello to everyone, first post here. Lately, I've been reading this forum extensively, and the information available here is impressive and sometimes invaluable. What a great service this forum is for cart owners.

My question relates to the RXV. I have a 2010 fleet model with a Danaher Controller that appears to have an issue. The cart sometimes chugs then surges while accelerating, or even at a steady speed. It also sometimes completely shuts down while moving and throws the brake on; interesting to go from 20 mph to zero quickly and unexpectedly !! An EZ-GO tech and I have been troubleshooting the cart using the handheld, the service manual, and the advanced service manual. All possible options that could be giving the trouble have been evaluated and tested, and also ruled out. Therefore, it appears that the trouble is the Danaher controller.

I am coming to grips with the painful concept of repairing or replacing the Danaher controller. However, I have read here and elsewhere that the newer RXVs have Curtis controllers, so I'm contemplating going that route instead. Is the Curtis unit likely to be superior? Another issue is that the wiring connections for the Danaher and Curtis units appear different. Another post here suggested that EZ-GO (or someone) was making a "wiring kit" that would allow a Curtis controller to be plugged into an RXV that is otherwise wired for the Danaher controller. Is this true? If so, what's the vendor and part number for this wiring kit?

Thanks in advance for your help, and thanks again for this forum.

If I had an RXV that was overly expensive to fix I would convert it to a DC sepex system.

I found that when my brake was going out it did not give a code to the handheld. Replaced brake and cart ran great. I would replace brake and see what happens.

Another thing to try would be to pull the motor access cover and drive it. Next time it happens carefully touch the motor brake. Of it is scorching hot, I believe that is your problem.

Hey guys, I'm following up on my previous post. I must confess that my first reaction to the posts of kgsc and Jerj was negative; i told myself, "how could it be the brake when we're getting codes from the handheld on brake lockup and vehicle shutdown?" Well, I bit the bullet and replaced the motor brake. I'm beginning to believe that the cure has been found!! With the exception of one very slight "hiccup" ( sort of a chug that was less than 1 second ), the cart has run about 2 miles without any issues.

I guess this goes to show how complicated the RXV can be to diagnose sometimes.

Thanks again guys for your feedback and advice.

Glad you may have fixed the issue and no worries on the negative. I just stated what I did because I did have one do the exact same thing yours was doing and it was the brake. How you choose to use that information is up to you.

Also, the controller/wiring adapter kit is an EZ-GO part. I have done 2 of them, so i dont yet have the part number permenently eched into the grey matter. I'll try to add "get that part number" to my to-do list.
