Reversing contactor toggle switch wiring
I am in the middle of a major upgrade to a tore up ezgo workhorse. New controller/solenoid/reversing contactor. Things are creeping along but eventually I will get it up and running.
My problem is that I am running new wires (14g) for the new reversing contactor and I am not sure where they attach to the 6 prong F/R 3 way toggle switch. I have 3 wires coming into the F/R switch. 2 from the positive tabs (1 forward side and 1 reverse side) on the reversing contactor and 1 from the red side of the solenoid. Anyone have a diagram of how these 3 wires are supposed to be split up and installed on the 6 tabs on the toggle? Any help will be greatly appreciated. |

Re: Reversing contactor toggle switch wiring
We need to know what kind of toggle it is but I am thinking the red wire goes to a center post on the switch and the F and R wires go to the outer legs on the same side as the red.

Re: Reversing contactor toggle switch wiring
if you are doing one of Scotty's reversing contactor upgrades.....the best thing you could do is contact him directly......either a PM or email.....or even call him on the phone.

kgsc, I gave that configuration a try...no joy. also tried putting splitters on each of the 3 wires and tried a few different configs, also with no joy so I figured I would ask here.

FAT fingered that last reply and sent too early...Sir Nuke, yes it is one of the reverse contactors from Scotty but he is on holiday until the second.....I only have a few more days of vacation left for me to get this bad boy working so reaching out to the community here and see if I can rolling before the new year .
Thanks |

Re: Reversing contactor toggle switch wiring
These diagrams should have come with the contactor... if it doesn't work it may not be wired correctly. Recheck the diagram and the cart.

Re: Reversing contactor toggle switch wiring
Looks like the cart is wired up just like the diagrams. Some possibilities are that I have the diodes installed backwards....I am a bit color blind so I have the diodes installed with the (silver?) stripe that is on one side of the black barrel shaped diode orientated towards the positive side. if there is a red arrow or something like that then I did not see it.
The diagram shows 3 positive wires going to the F/R switch. Maybe the positive wire that connects to the solenoid is not needed unless there is a reverse buzzer? I double checked the 14g wires ran from the positive tabs on the controller to the switch. Where do I plug these 2 wires into? I understand that the reverse tab is opposite of the forward in regards to the positioning, but which of the 6 tabs on the backside of the switch do they plug into? Still working on it. Will update if I have any luck. Thanks, Rob |

Re: Reversing contactor toggle switch wiring
There doesn't need to be a negative connection on the switch? Is there a negative connection on the toggle switch in the diagram that I am missing? This is a complete rewire so I am starting from scratch.

Re: Reversing contactor toggle switch wiring
No negative connection for the switch. When you press the go pedal does the main solenoid close ? and if it does, there should be battery pack voltage from the red wire to the toggle and main negative on the pack
And I hope you have it on jack stands so it doesn't run over you when it does go.. |

Re: Reversing contactor toggle switch wiring
Right now it will move forward in all 3 toggle positions. By move I mean that when I press the pedal the cart seems to vibrate a bit and then crawls forward in 2 of the 3 switch positions full power forward for one of the positions. I am able to get what appears to be full power for forward movement but no reverse and it still stutter/moves even when the switch is in the middle position. Does that info point to anything that anyone can think of?
