Default 2005 ez go electric battery question

Hi all,

I have worked on a quite a few gas Club Cars, from rebuilding motors, to changing belts/starters, ect. I have someone that has brought me a 2005 electric ez go. I know nothing about electric carts! I have been able to find out by the serial number that it is a 2005 TXT 36v. Model is TXT Standard.

After a full charge, it will barely move. The "customer" says that she has never replaced the batteries and I'm wondering how to exactly check the batteries. I've done a bit of research online and have found 2 things.

1. Fully charge batteries, and put a volt meter on them. Each battery should read at least 7.0v. All six of mine are reading 6.0 - 6.1v.

2. Use a hydrometer. (have not done this).

I did notice that most of the cells are extremely low on fluid. The customer says that she fills the cells constantly.

I am unable to find any type of service/users manual online (there are so many different types, I don't know what I'm looking at).

Any ideas or links you would suggest using to help me get more informed on the technical aspects of electric carts or how to properly check the batteries.

I would hate to tell her that she needs new batteries, purchase them, install them and then it still doesn't move!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

robbiescd, the batteries are DEAD. normally a 36v pack, fully charged, and after a 12 hr rest period will be stabilized at 38.3v, you have 36v after charging.....which in the electric cart world means they are dead and need to be replaced. the customer stated that they had never been replaced, meaning that they are 8 years old.....which is GREAT that they got that many years out of them. normal life of quality golf cart batteries is in the 5 to 6 year range.

Thanks to you all! That's pretty much what I figured....but needed a professional opinion! I just refilled the cells and put it on charge.... just so I have no doubts when I tell the customer what the cost of a new set of batteries is going to be.

Do you advise changing out the battery cables as well when doing a battery change? The batteries in the rear had quite a bit of acid build up. And from the looks of it, the rack they sit in is going to be in horrible shape as well.

The lady is 70 years old and doesn't really "maintain" her equipment. She just wants to get on, turn the key and go!

Sir Nuke...thanks for the numbers. I'll jot them down and remember that!

Again, thanks to all for the quick response....and Happy New Year to everyone!
