hello I wish I would have found this forum a year ago.

1994 marathon pc4x (solid state)
1. I have burned out a couple of controllers. all wiring is correct. have changed hd solenoid, hd fnr, hd controller, motor 1yr old exide's. I am on third controller in 2yrs the only thing not updated is potentiometer. I have read on these forums that the pot is out of range can cause problems. I am at 0-7k I didnt think this was too far off but you tell me.

Re: potentiometer
An out of range pot should not cause the controller to fail. 7K is too high, the controller should have went into a shutdown....but I guess it depends on whether the controller is set up to do so. Try replacing the pot box and go from there.

Re: potentiometer
Setting should be 0ohms no pedal and 500ohms at wo. It shouldn't have burnt anything up though even out of adjustment.
You can adjust your pot if it's working smoothly by loosening the screw on the arm and resetting it.

Re: potentiometer
What factors could cause 3 burned out controllers seems to happen every 6 months. I have even taken to dealership after the last replaced controller and they found no other problems.

Re: potentiometer
I adjusted the pot the lowest value I get is 0-5.17k. smoothly and repeatable.

I can add inline resistor to decrease more if you think it is neccessary.

Re: potentiometer
5.17 is fine according to Curtis controllers. Do you have the resister's on the controller and selonoid as they came from the factory? If not I would look at them and get them. If buying used controllers I would suggest getting a new one or at least getting one with a year's warrinty.

Re: potentiometer
the original curtis burned up soon after I bought the cart and I attributed that to old batteries. replaced all batteries, wires, hd fnr, etc.

Then I bought the 720 amp buggies unlimited I guess its custom made for them no name brand. They replaced the first one no problem full refund. I am sending in the second one back this friday still under warranty only six months, and hopefully the warranty will still be honored.

Re: potentiometer
Can I ask how you know it's the controller?
Can you tell us what exactley it's doing or not doing besides not running. Did it quit while riding it what where the conditions.
