Default 1993 EZGO - motor upgrade

I have a 1993 EZGO that I believe has the original motor and controller. I just picked it up used and would like to upgrade the speed and torque. I live in an area that has a lot of residential streets, some with quite steep hills.

Can someone recommend an upgrade kit for me.

My system currently consists of a 2HP 36 Volt, 55 amp GE motor

new 36 volt battery system (1997)

400 amp controller rater 24-36 volt.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Buy a 48 volt controller and put 2 more batteries in the cart with a 48 volt selonoid and charger. Cheapest way.
Controller=$400.00
2 - 6 volt batteries $100.00
48 volt selonoid $45.00
48 volt charger $300.00
These are all ball park figures. You need to check around your area for deals.

Will just upgrading the controller increase the speed and torque? I am not super experienced at this but right now the cart probably goes 5 mph or less up a gentle hill. I am thinking that a motor is needed also?

Upgrading controller will give you more torque, not top end speed. It should give you torque to maintain speed up hills. If you buy a new controller, be sure to get one that will work at 36v or 48v in case you deside to increase voltage later. Raising to 48v is the best bang for the buck.

Up grading a motor is fine except you have to live with one or the other. Torque or speed. Uping the voltage will give the 36 volt motor more of both.

I got good results out of the speed/torque upgrade kit from Buggies Unlimited (sorry, didn't know if I should have typed that). It went from 2hp to 10.8hp with a nice increase in torque. Comes with everything. $1200 though. I have a lifted 98 TXT.
