Friend just got this EZGO, what should we do first?
My buddy just picked up this project. We don't know where to start. He has a key but no charger.
Any tips on what should be done first or help in determining what kind of charger we need? I figure charger is where to start to see what works and what doesnt. It has been sitting for a long time. It has, what appears to be very heavy duty front set up and something "air" in the rear. Any tips, pointers or advise? Any way to decode year and model? Thanks |

IMHO, you should start by thinking about what you want to end up with. A hunting cart? Beach cruiser? Grocery getter? Take a look at the members pictures here at BGW and see what you like. That would be my first step, but that's just me.......
And welcome to BGW!!! |

Thanks.
I'm pretty sure, if he can get it up and running, it will just be a neighborhood cruiser. |

It's a 36v cart, so you'll need a 36v charger. First thing I'd do is fix the battery tray...you have one trying to escape.

BTW, if its a 36V cart, you can charge each pair of batteries if you have a 12 volt charger......

First, he needs to figure out what he wants to do with it, as in how he is going to use it.
Just looking at it and its condition, I would be willing to bet that batteries are gone. before I go out and buy a charger.... I would find one to borrow, disconnect all the battery cables and clean the connections up and re-attach them. ensure the batteries have the proper amount of water in them and see if they will even take a charge. and looking at the pictures, you have a cart that has a sepex drive. and it maybe air shocks?? |

The cart is a 2001.5 TXT PDS (or newer) with what appears to be a homemade lift. It is a 36v system composed of six 6v Trojan T-105 batteries, needs new main battery cables and looks like it needs a new battery tray and hold-downs. Batteries should be filled with distilled water to cover the plates before attempting to charge them.

FLIP the tow/run switch to TOW, clean the battery cables, See what the pack volts are, and each battery volts are, and do like Gorno said water the batteries, then charge them and see if it moves, you can charge them with a 12 volt charger 2 at a time, or 6 volt charger 1 at a time, the MF code is in the glove box on the passenger side or it's under the seat above the rear battery on the frame rail on the driver side

Check the battery post tops to see if a letter and number are stamped in. This will tell you how old the batteries are. Letter is the month such as B is February and Number is the year.
